Who: Ariana Scott and Xander Christopoulos
What: Princess Ariana's ship gets wrecked and she meets a merman
Where: The Mediterranean Sea
When: Early Afternoon
Warnings: Tons of fluff
They were supposed to make port three days ago, but thanks to the weather and some remarkably high winds, their ship had kept getting off course and they'd had to backtrack several times to find their way home again. The crew was getting restless, after what had already been such a long journey, and while they weren't completely out of rations yet they were already starting to get a little low. They hadn't planned for an extra three days on the ship, everyone had thought they'd be making port and enjoying the warmth of a tavern by now, and sailors were starting to make mutterings about Poseidon being angry with them and continuing to draw their ship in the wrong direction.
Princess Ariana was used to being at sea by now, so it didn't bother her as much as it did others. She didn't even get sea sick anymore, which was a relief. When she was younger she used to get sea sick all the time, but now that she was older, she could actually enjoying being at sea on her father's ship, savoring the salty smell of the sea and the wind in her hair. The other sailors might be restless, but Ariana was perfectly happy to stay on the ship for three more days. She felt much more at home on the water than she ever had in the palace, and after spending an entire month with relatives she wasn't all that fond of in the first place, Ariana was relieved to be somewhere she actually wanted to be. Though of course, she was excited to get home and see her father.
She hadn't noticed at first, when the sky started to darken considerably when it was still only midday, and the water around them started to churn almost menacingly. It wasn't until she heard the warning bell that a storm was coming that she realized what was happening, but by then it was too late for all of them. She'd been enjoying the sun from the quarterdeck, legs dangling precariously over the edge of the ship when the sky darkened and the first clap of thunder came. Ariana had looked up in confusion, wondering where the sun went. It had seemed odd that the weather would turn this fast, and it was only shortly after that when the first big wave hit.
Ariana had tried to hang on. The storm had hit too fast for her to get to a safer part of the ship, and everyone was preoccupied with trying to keep the ship above water to notice her. Sailors were barking orders from the captain and scrambling around the deck while the water under them did its best to capsize the ship, and Ariana lost her balance, falling right over the edge of it. She managed to grab onto the side at the last second before she actually plunged into the ocean, but her grip was slippery as the sky started to leak with water. Ariana tried to call for help but her voice was lost in the noise of the storm and the waves crashing against them, and when an explosion from one of the barrels of gun powder down below rocked the entire ship, Ariana lost her grip on the railing. Screaming, she fell into the dark, churning water and the last thing she remembered was the icy chill of the sea soaking her through before she went unconscious and everything went black.
