Who: Jace Kent and Joseph Melville What: Spock is sick and Kirk is having none of it Where: Joseph's place When: Monday, October 3rd 2016 Warnings: TBD, sick Joseph mostly
The past week had been a non-stop horror show, more or less, and so far there didn't seem to be any sign of things letting up. Since the MTN's were out of commission except for emergency use, Jace had mostly been spending the week shut in his office or at home making conference calls, talking to the press with Agency PR on stand by and trying to get absolutely anyone in American government on the damn phone. Of course everyone was denying their involvement completely, but that was to be expected. No one was going to willingly take the blame for this, even if a large percentage of the world wasn't the biggest fan of reincarnates, a public attack like this left a bad taste in anyone's mouth. Biochemical warfare unleashed on the general public didn't have an outcome that could be easily controlled. Too risky, if you were directing the attack at a particular group, there was no telling if it would stay in that group or find its way to everyone else. So far this virus seemed to only be latching onto reincarnates, but still. No one wanted to be That Guy, in case that changed.
Of course, 'That Guy', had already been caught and taken into Agency custody, but there was no way he'd been working alone. The guy was a mundy with no prior record, not even a background in chemistry, so he was likely just someone else's patsy. The part that made Jace really sick to his stomach was that there was no conceivable way this could have been the Resistance. For all their faults, even they would never attack their own kind like this. Not when it put them at risk like this too. No, this had mundy crime written all over it. Nothing like a higher dose of reincarnate persecution to make you more paranoid. Relations between reincarnates and the rest of the world had been getting steadily worse all the time, but until now, it had never quite escalated like this. This was the first deliberate attack by non-reincarnates in Jace's memory, it wasn't the same thing as protestors shouting into the abyss or politicians speaking against them on TV, mundies were getting bold. After this, people would be crying out for blood. This had been an act of war.
Being at the Agency was depressing. By the end of the week they were missing even more people who were either stuck at home because they didn't live in London, or they were seeking treatment at the clinic. Jace went out of his way to avoid the MTN hub so he didn't have to think about those people that had been in there, who weren't anywhere anymore. They'd all been reported dead by now, so walking by that place felt like walking through ghosts. Jace wasn't someone who really knew how to deal with his feelings in any normal, functional ways, so he buried himself in work. He probably should have been more worried about his own health, considering what was happening, but like Kirk, Jace had always been a little reckless and cavalier when it came to his own well being. However, he was starting to get pretty concerned about someone else's well being. Joseph hadn't come into work on today, and Jace had tried to get a hold of him several times over the weekend, without getting much of a response, but Jace wasn't one to be discouraged.
Unable to shake the bad feeling he had, after work Jace spontaneously took a cab directly to Joseph's. He knew where the man lived even though he hadn't actually been there yet, but he didn't think anything of it by going there now unannounced. They were actually friends, by now, he thought. And considering what was happening this last week, Jace was getting a little worried about his friend. Their friend. Kirk was worried too, and frankly, Jace was in for a huge headache if he didn't check on him. Since Joseph wasn't answering his phone, clearly more aggressive tactics had to be taken. If the mountain won't come to Mohammed, etc. Once Jace was at Joseph's door, he knocked loudly, and repeatedly.
