Who: Minnie Pappas and Ren Larsen
What: Autumn approaches
Where: Hades Palace
When: 22nd September
Warnings: Cutesy fluff mainly. Unfinished.
Every year as the days became noticeably shorter, so did Minnie’s temper. Most people in her department at the Agency had, by now, figured out that keeping out of her way was in their best interests, even their new hire Bo had been scarce recently. At least he had enough brains to pick up on the atmosphere of a place. However, it did mean that she was left alone with her own thoughts a little more than she’d like. If she had someone to shout at, she could temporarily ignore her general unhappiness and believe that she was just annoyed by the incompetence of the mortals surrounding her. And don’t think you’d ever get her to admit that what she was feeling was unhappiness. Sadness was not an emotion in her vocabulary. Bitterness on the other hand…
She hadn’t bothered with her apartment for the past couple of weeks. Being in the Underworld also meant she could ignore the dwindling sunlight and what it meant. Or at least pretend that she was ignoring it. The fact was that it held a prominent place in her daily thoughts while she sat writing reports that she probably should have finished in the office. In lieu of that she had spent too much time trying to find someone or something to take her frustration out on.
The problem was that autumn was upon them. Every year it was a reminder of the company she didn’t have and this year was worse. Previously she could write it all off. Persephone wasn’t there and really which of the other gods could stand her? Then of course if she had found someone who could get past the general sense of uneasiness that people felt around her aura, her darling sister would have somehow screwed it up for her. Yes, bitterness was definitely an emotion she was comfortable with.
But this year... This year Persephone was here. Alive and in the world. Close enough to contact, to leave gifts for, to yearn for. A little bright spot in an otherwise dark life. The plant he had given her was still miraculously alive, just about anyway. It looked a little haggard, but it wasn’t dead yet which all things considered was tantamount to a miracle. There was just a few small problems with things as they were.
Billie had been right about one thing. Ren’s very existence was making her miserable. Well, not so much his existence but it was that awful yearning. Even if it wasn't the same Persephone that Hades had known he had re-awoken her deep seated longing for companionship. Minnie had given up on the idea of it decades ago when it became clear that her sister wasn't going to let her keep anyone that she might be attracted to and now she just didn't know how to deal with the whole situation.
Kidnapping Ren was out of the question. You just couldn't get away with that sort of thing twice.
So the current way she was dealing was being as much of a recluse as possible and biting off the head of anyone unlucky enough to talk to her. She was considering going to look for Gio just so she had someone to shout at and then probably lock him in has room for good measure. Her best option however was to stay away from everyone. Then no one had any evidence that she was clearly suffering a complete mental breakdown.
