Who: Joseph Melville and Jace Kent
What: Joseph lost his job. Jace offers him a better one.
Where: A bar somewhere.
When: July 5th, sometimes that evening.
Warnings: Language, reincarnate bonding. All that fun stuff.
The day had started just like any other day. Work was always busy after a holiday, as if everyone felt the need to work more to make up for that one extra day without. Which wasn't even the case for most of the lawyers who worked at the firm Joseph worked out. He needed more then two hands and two feet to count how many lawyers he knew that had worked Saturday, Sunday, and the Fourth of July. He'd worked on Saturday, then took Sunday off. As for Monday, he found that taking the day off was good then, too, seeing as there was barely anyone working at other places that day. It was hard to call and get in touch with people when they were out with friends or family, enjoying fireworks and whatever else they did on that holiday.
But from all of that, the day had started out normally. Joseph had picked up his coffee from this little place near the office. He could have easily gone to the Starbucks down the block, or on the other side of the street, but he preferred to go to that small cafe for his daily caffeine fix. Then on to the office, where, once again, there was a pile of paperwork waiting for him on his desk.
Paperwork was the new rock that Sisyphus had to push up the mountain every day. The more he got done, the more it seemed to pile up again. It was something he'd expected, though. The paperwork was nothing new. It was easy in some ways, too, where all he had to do was review it carefully, take notes, and then find the problems within the file. There were always problems in the file, which is why they would end up on his desk. This time, however, there was already a note on one of the files. One of the files that Joseph had already worked on, and was completed.
The note was what sent him to his supervisor, and the argument that happened after was what led to his resigning from his job. There wasn't a point where Joseph was in any way about to be fired. The firm knew that they had something good when it came to that employee. But something inside Joseph just snapped, something where he decided to get out of a job he found he didn't like as much as he used to. So he resigned. And got his things. And then he walked out of the building, and only thought to look back when he was back at his apartment.
Which is where the panic set in. Nothing about leaving his job was smart, or responsible, or, the most important, logical. For that reason, he decided to post something to let people know it happened. Of course, who responded was the person he was most hoping would. No, not hoping, not really. He knew that Jace would respond, and maybe that's why he'd made the post. It was a given that Spock... missed his best friend, and while Joseph didn't particularly feel like talking about how he was feeling, the idea of spending time with Jace, with Kirk, was something that sounded good to him right then.
So there he was, at the end of a long day, sitting in a bar that he'd never been to before, waiting for someone he knew in another life to show up. Though, currently, Joseph was wondering if he'd be able to step out for a smoke before Jace showed up. Damn those stupid new rules about not smoking in bars.
