Who: Kai and Gabi Whistler
What: All the best families have their secrets.
Where: The Arrow Cave
When: Monday, December 14; evening
Going to the places that had been important to Thea was kind of a big deal. Starling City itself was there. Gabi didn't know how long, or what had brought it into the world, but they'd gone looking for it on a whim and found it, exactly where Thea had expected it to be. They'd found Verdant, and spent a while standing behind the bar, looking over it. They hadn't gone down into the Arrow Cave, though, to the place where Thea had fought crime with her brother and his friends. That was a little bit too much. Neither of them was actually sure if they wanted to see if other people had been there. If it was inhabited. Neither of them knew if it would be better or worse if Oliver was out there, somewhere, saving people. It would be different. It would be family, complicated family, and Gabi's was complicated enough without throwing Thea's into the mix.
It was time, though. It was time to go downstairs under Verdant, to see all of the equipment down there, to figure out if there was still a place for the costume that she'd retrieved from the Agency. If there was room for Thea down there. Gabi was going, and she was going for a very important reason.
She needed a place to hide the Christmas presents she'd bought, a place where no one would find them.
Bags were looped over her arms as she descended into the hidden rooms below Verdant, more bags than she could even carry. It was just the first trip. What? Gabi loved shopping, and when Christmas came, she had a perfect excuse to do all of it she wanted, and she didn't even have to look selfish about it. It was so much better to buy a bunch of gifts for people you cared about than it was to buy stuff for herself. She'd even bought a bracelet for her new friend that she'd met at that rock star's party, Riley, even if she wasn't sure how she was going to get it to her yet. Gabi would figure it out. After all, she knew where Riley worked! Mostly, though, she had gifts for her family. Lots and lots of gifts for her family. Mountains of them. Things they needed, things they didn't know they need, things that they didn't need at all but they were getting them anyway, Gabi had thought of everything. Used or not, there should be plenty of room in the Arrow Cave for all her shopping and whatever else anybody needed it for, too. And it was at least part hers, right? Since she had Thea, she had to have a claim on some of the space. And that was what she'd tell anyone who found her there.
It was quiet, though, and Gabi couldn't tell if the place had been used at all. Maybe that was for the best, though it was a little... disappointing. It wasn't as big as she'd built it up to be in her head. Oh, well. She wasn't in it for that crime fighting thing, either. She didn't need Thea's team.
Gabi hummed as she stuffed bags away under counters, into storage spaces. Her presence was never exactly something quiet, but alone, she was a lot more peaceful than she was when other people around. There was less that Gabi had to be when she was alone, nobody to impress. Just her, an armload of Christmas presents, and Thea. "Deck the halls with boughs of hmm-hmm... fa la la..."
