Who: Daniel Morgan & Devin Blackthorn
What: Brothers getting to know each other over lunch
Where: Manhattan, New York
When: Backdated to Wednesday afternoon, July 22nd 2015
Warnings: Probably nothing huge
At noon in New York, it was already after five in London. Not the worst turn around Daniel had ever done, so he wasn't feeling too disoriented when he came out the other side of the MTN entrance in the New York Agency that afternoon. It just meant that he'd already done a full work day before heading out to meet Devin for lunch, but he was far from tired. On the contrary, Daniel was practically jumping out of his own skin by the time he left. The prospect of meeting Devin face-to-face had him temporarily at a loss, maybe for the first time in his life unsure of what he should do or say. Daniel would never admit this to anyone else, except maybe Zane, but he was honestly nervous.
He knew what his father's reputation once was. Matthew Morgan had never been a man very attached to the idea of monogamy, at least before Julian. The minute Julian came into Matthew's life, it was like the man everyone knew, the man who couldn't even be faithful to the mother of his own children, the man Daniel had grown up fearing, that man suddenly seemed to change over night. That was just the sort of thing love did to a person, but no matter how much you loved someone, that never fully erased your past. Matthew had a past, one that frequently came back to haunt his children long after he was gone from this world and qualified to do the haunting himself. Caught in a particularly morbid thought, Daniel wondered if this was indeed Matthew Morgan's way of continuing to strike fear and distrust into the hearts and minds of those he left behind.
Daniel didn't actually believe that, though. His father hadn't been perfect, not by a long shot, but that didn't mean that everything he touched was tainted. Having the huge family that Daniel had was a blessing, nothing less, and he honestly didn't know where he'd be without all his brothers and sisters. So, in a way, Matthew Morgan's infidelity was a blessing as well. Daniel only regretted now that Devin had been forced to grow up not experiencing that kind of supportive environment, and if Devin would let him, Daniel fully planned on fixing that. It was the least he could do for him, after growing up so isolated. Daniel knew a little something about isolation, despite the difference in circumstance, so they already had a few things in common. It was a promising start.
Despite telling his siblings that he wouldn't meet Devin alone, Daniel didn't actually tell them who he was going to meet that day. Daniel had meetings all the time, so no one was suspicious, and it wasn't like Daniel was trying to hide Devin on purpose. He was just trying his best not to overwhelm him, but he was hoping that if this lunch went as well as he thought it might, that Devin would be more receptive to meeting the rest of the family soon. When Daniel arrived in New York, he had arrived a bit early, so he'd gone up to his temporary office in the Camelot Enterprises building and told the front desk to let him know when Devin arrived. What? There was no law against finding some busy work while waiting for your lunch meeting to show up. Besides, it helped calm Daniel's nerves. It wasn't every day you met your long lost brother for lunch. From the e-mail exchange they at least seemed to already get along fairly well.
