Who: Garrett Landry and OPEN to Camelot
What: Fun with horses.
When: Tuesday, May 26; morning
Where: Camelot stables
Warnings: TBD but probably nothing.
When it came to settling in, Garrett had always had an easier time than his sister. Of course, he had several unfair advantages, too; less trauma, more experience with people, better tools for coping with change. When it came to this change, in particular, Garrett's advantage was even more vast; he had been hired on to train people with horses. When Garrett was with horses, Garrett was at home. He'd stabled Arrow and Shadow next to each other, but the rest of the horses in the stable were familiar to him, too. They should be, since he'd hand selected them for Camelot before turning in his resignation. His boss hadn't even been surprised, and had already drawn up the papers selling Arrow and Shadow to Garrett for far less than their worth. When Garrett had tried to protest, he'd told him that they'd mope with him and Krista gone, and they wouldn't work as well for anyone else. Somehow, Garrett had ended up agreeing (he still wasn't sure how that argument had gotten twisted around on him).
The biggest surprise, though, and one he was keeping quiet to surprise Freddie with it, was that the boss had included Avalanche in the destriers they'd agreed to sell to Camelot - the horses had been decided on long before Garrett and Krista had decided that they were going, which meant that the boss had realized before Garrett and Krista had that they would be leaving. He might have even known from that first day when Freddie walked onto the property. He really wouldn't put it past the man. It had been a sad goodbye, with promises that they'd come back to visit, but at the same time Garrett had felt more excited, more alive, than he had since the day his parents had died and he'd started the long battle to be the best replacement parent to his little sister that he could be.
The number of horses in Camelot's stables was a lot to be the sole responsible party for, but Garrett didn't regret agreeing to it. It would keep him busy, at least, too busy to actually think about the fact that he had thrown himself right into the middle of Camelot with Arthur and Gwen, once again, or to worry about how whether anyone would be watching to see if the story really played out the same way every time. Garrett was determined that it wouldn't, and maybe... maybe the fact that they were from different versions of the tale would help him, there. After all, this Gwen wasn't the delicate creature that Lancelet had wanted to protect.
The stables were clean, the horses were fed and groomed, and Garrett was sweaty but satisfied, taking a break with a bottle of water before he got started on exercising them. If he was lucky, someone would come along to check the new additions out that he could talk into helping him with that, since the training schedule for horseback riding and mounted combat hadn't begun yet. If not... that was going to be a lot of horses for one man to exercise in a day.
