Who: Holly & Topher Strange
What: After visiting their mom in the nuthouse, they decide to blow off some steam
Where: San Diego, CA
When: Tuesday, April 28th 2015
Warnings: Probably some talk of death and other trigger topics. Also some partying.
Holly always dreaded the days they went to visit their mother. For a million different reasons, and depending on the day, an entirely different one took precedent over the other. Sometimes she just didn't want to deal with the family drama, despite it being the only real family drama they had left. Tawny was gone. Their dad was gone. All they had left was their mother, and their mother was a semi-permanent resident at one of those upscale nut houses for adults, masquerading as some kind of fancy resort. Not like the kind that was on the news recently, those freaky reincarnate torture chambers. An actual place that took care of people with mental issues, except their mother's brand of issues weren't exactly the kind that just went away with time. She was a reincarnate, and while she'd had problems before, having a reincarnate had just made those problems become life threatening, and herself too dangerous to be around her kids. One of the last vivid memories Holly had of her outside this place was the day her mother hid needles under her mattress, because her reincarnate, already having driven her half insane, convinced her mother that Holly was some girl they had a grudge against and needed to be dealt with. Not exactly a happy memory.
She put up a good front for her friends, and even Xander, but honestly Holly didn't have too many happy memories to hold onto. Her family life was fucked up, had been fucked up before and after their mom completely lost it. Her twin sister had a dangerous reincarnate too that drove her over the edge, landed her in jail and then dead not long after. Their dad? Holly still didn't really know what actually happened to him, all she knew was that he was dead and that at one point their half-brother Xander had been accused of it. She didn't think Xander had anything to do with what happened to their dad, but her dad had been a reincarnate too, a god of war that Xander's reincarnate had issues with. Hell, Holly and Topher didn't need to have issues with their dad's reincarnate because the man himself had never been very nice to them growing up. He'd been hard on her and Tawny, and borderline abusive to Topher, not to mention all the cheating on their mom that had landed them with a surprise bastard sibling, and who knows if there were any more out there. It was no small wonder that all the Strange kids had turned out a little fucked up, Xander was lucky he hadn't had to grow up in the same household as Rob Strange.
It was some kind of cruel irony that their committed mother was the only immediate family they had left, so Holly reluctantly went with Topher to visit her, but she always left in the worst mood. Visiting her always brought up the worst things for Holly, and afterward, all she wanted to do was let off some steam. It was on these days that she felt a lot of her old self creeping back up towards the surface, the Holly that she'd been working very hard to hide from her friends and teammates. The Holly that drank and partied recklessly, that didn't care about anyone or anything or even herself enough to stop. The Holly that used drugs as an escape, a habit that had landed her in the hospital herself once after an OD that she was never completely sure was an accident or not. It had happened right after she'd found the needles in her mattress and realized her own mother wanted her dead. Didn't make a difference that her mother was under some reincarnate influence, it had still stung. And when they visited her here, all those old wounds always came bubbling up again, fresh like they'd never even scabbed over. Outside the hospital, Holly wrapped her arms around herself and turned to Topher, her face the mask that it usually was after a visit but as usual, her older brother could probably see right through that. "I don't wanna go home yet."
