It wasn't that Clay was being cruel, or impatient. The truth of the matter was, Clay loved his sister deeply, but he fully recognized that she could be a right idiot when it came to letting herself be happy. He'd grown fond enough of Jay, as well, as the young man had settled into their apartment and their lives quite easily, but he knew him well enough to know that he had a way of missing what was under his nose, as well. Really, this was for the best, and Clay was doing it because he cared about both of them, and about their happiness. Well... and it was a bit about the fact that you couldn't go a day without walking through the apartment seeing them both smiling at their phones while they texted instead of talking face to face where they might have a chance of moving from flirting to actually moving forward to things that Clay didn't care too much to think about in relation to his little sister, but that would be far easier to handle than watching her torture herself over a boy who obviously felt the same way about her.
The plan was probably far more complicated than it needed to be, but Clay really didn't know any other way to operate. Schemes and games were far less his style than talking it through over tea, hugs and emotional support. Still, though, no matter how bad his plan, he had banked on the fact that Colby and Jay were too busy mooning over one another to question it too much. So far, so good, on that one. Neither of them had questioned so far, not even when Clay (and his co-conspirators, of course) had come up with excuses for why they couldn't possibly all just go to Holly's together. The excuses had been thin, but they'd agreed, and that was all Clay had needed to enact his part of the plan.
Jay had been set to arrive first, and mimicking Colby hadn't been all that challenging. It had only required borrowing a change of clothes, and once Clay had shapeshifted into her he'd realized how very well he actually knew all of her little habits. For someone who'd never spent much time acting, Clay had slipped into pretending to be his sister easily. Leading Jay to the room that they'd set up hadn't been much of a challenge at all, and once he was sealed into the room that Henry had bespelled to trap them inside until... well, until they kissed, really, but to keep them from claiming that they'd only kissed to escape he knew Henry had written in a note something about being honest with themselves. It was the same thing, really.
With Jay securely tucked away, it had just been a matter of changing into his own clothes again, though different ones than he'd been wearing that morning. For the most part, Jay had just been borrowing from Clay's wardrobe to supplement what scant supply he'd had from his time on the streets. Though that was easier than sneaking some of Colby's clothes, and though being male was far more comfortable, Clay was much less confident about his ability to impersonate Jay than he had been about pretending to be his sister. He hadn't known him as long, after all, and his mannerisms and ways of speaking were still unfamiliar to him. He was just counting on the fact that Colby was usually flustered whenever she was around Jay to keep her from noticing the differences. Since everyone else was there, and the person at the door could only be Colby, Clay supposed he'd get to put that to the test as soon as he had it open.
