It had been, hands down, one of the worst weeks of Morgan's life. It had been bad enough when the truth had finally come out about her and Matt and Todd had left, but then she'd gotten that call from the Reincarnate Clinic on Sunday that Todd had been injured. By the time she got there he'd been discharged, and she'd spent the rest of the week praying that he was just continuing to ignore her and not that he was now bleeding to death on the side of a road somewhere. These were the thoughts that plagued her every day, that is, when she wasn't thinking about Matt.
Morgan had spent a long time thinking about Matt, and really going over everything that had happened between them. More then anything, just trying to figure out what exactly had happened for her to have so easily thrown her whole life away, including a fiancee and a daughter, for someone she barely knew. So far, she hadn't come up with anything good. Morgan was still as selfish as she had been at the age of twelve when she threw loud, public fits if she didn't get her way. She was still that girl, only now instead of throwing fits she cheated on her fiancee.
She loved them both. She did. And it didn't matter how many times Todd said that's not how it was supposed to work, that's how it was. She felt like two completely different women around them, and maybe that's why it had been so easy for her to do this to her family. The part of her that loved Matt didn't love Todd, and the part of her that loved Todd didn't love Matt. Given some time and a clean separation from Matt, maybe that part of her that he'd taken would just... melt away. At least, that's what she was going to hope. Because no matter what she felt for Matt, she knew she had to fix things with her family. She had to be the woman that Todd made her be, because that was the woman that didn't hurt the people she loves and abandon her family on selfish whims. She didn't want to be that woman anymore.
The few days she had spent with Ainsley, Kyle and Emma in New Jersey had been a nice escape, but since then she had barely left her house in Georgia. Tonight was no exception. After putting Emma down for the night a little on the early side, Morgan had sat down to watch TV only to stare blankly at the screen for about forty minutes before she realized she was just wasting electricity. She went outside on the porch and had a cigarette (a nasty habit from college that she'd recently picked back up) before coming back inside to check on Emma. Standing over her crib in the dark room, she reached down with one finger to brush lightly across her baby's cheek and smiled as Emma stirred in her sleep. Even if Todd never forgave her, she knew she'd be okay. No matter what went wrong with them, she'd always have her daughter. It was then that Morgan heard the front door open and close and her heart jumped into her chest. Even if it could only be one person, she still found herself pleading with God that it would be Todd finally coming home to them.
