Who: Nik Peterson and Caitlin Holloway.
What: Stuff is happening.
Where: X-Mansion. In the bedroom...
When: Saturday 15th February. Just after midnight.
Why: Because. Feels.
Warnings: Cute feels are going to happen here.
Valentine's had been a good day. Nik had somehow convinced Frankie to babysit because she had nothing better to do with her day, partially to avoid any interruptions where they might be called into the Danger Room for an emergency session. He was actually quite proud of that, and a small part of him hoped that everyone else appreciated what he had done for them. Even the anxiety that he felt over whether or not Caitlin would like her gifts, whether she would be happy to take a trip to Fiji or not, even that seemed minor. Especially considering what was about to happen.
God, the anxiety involved in planning this, and it going off without a hitch, it was practically killing him. Every time it seemed like Caitlin was going near their room, Nik would have a freaking heart attack. In the end, it seemed to work out though. He managed to keep her occupied one way or another right through the evening, claiming that just this one time, they could stay up late. Eventually, he had to admit defeat though. Raising a child meant that neither of them were functioning on a sensible amount of sleep, and so the propensity towards fatigue increased as the hours dragged on.
It was 11:57 by the time they reached the bedroom, which had several new vases of fresh flowers decorating dressers and windowsills. Nik undressed slowly, letting the seconds while away into a new day. He came around the bed on the way to the light switch, pausing to kiss the girlfriend he doted on. With a smile, he turned away to finish his short journey as Caitlin got into the bed.
"I don't know what I'd do without you, vozlyublennaya." He said, in as casual a manner as he could manage before he flicked the lights out.
Revealing the words printed out on the ceiling in glow in the dark chalk.
"WILL YOU MARRY ME?"
