Who: Ann & Anton.
What: A chance encounter.
Where: Liberty Island.
When: Saturday morning.
Warnings: None.
Having only been here a few months and spent most of his time taking care of daddy's business, Anton hadn't taken the time to visit all the sites and do the tourist circuit. He would be guilty of thinking that he didn't like America all that much, even after spending some time here, but he hadn't even seen this corner of it yet and wasn't exactly qualified to pass judgement.
Well, it was a Saturday morning, and maybe that could change today. The Sun was shining, the Russian was on Liberty Island with a pair of sunglasses and a leather jacket instead of a suit and for the first time since his father's funeral, he was smiling.
A young family walked past him and he was fairly certain Sveta and their unborn daughter would have liked it here. These days he doesn't think of her much anymore, the woman from another lifetime ago who took everything with her when she vanished out of his life without so much as a note goodbye. These days he thinks and dreams and fantasises about a blonde-haired green-eyed girl he's never met before. These days he catches himself subconsciously looking out for a blonde-haired blue-eyed brute of a woman every waking moment he's not at work or alone at home.
These days he's going crazy.
The vibrating phone soaks up all his attention but as he slipped his hand into his pants' pocket and turned to answer, he bumped into someone and fumbled. The response was instinctive as he awkwardly caught his phone in one hand and reached out with another to steady her.
"Извинит- err, sorry, sorry."
