Who. Liam Walker (w/ NPC's Jimmy Lannigan & Melanie Holt) What. Resistance confrontations & angry mobs Where. Brooklyn, NY When. Backdated to Saturday night, September 7th 2013 Warnings. Two character deaths. (Not Liam)
It all happened too fast.
One minute, Liam was walking with his real brother and sort-of sister, having just come from Jimmy's apartment in Brooklyn and heading back to the MTN. Liam remembered thinking how strange it was, to be doing something as normal as that like it was already a routine with them. His relationship with his brother had always been strained, though comically better than it'd ever been, thanks to reincarnation. Sometimes the voices in your head actually did you a favor, and it was thanks to the fictionally induced schizophrenia that he'd gotten to know Melanie as well. His life had been empty, before Robb. Before he'd gotten his own brother back, before he'd found some of Robb's siblings and they'd become his own too, before Camelot had given him a real purpose.
At first he didn't realize what was happening. The street was a little more crowded than it should have been close to eleven o'clock at night. The nag in Liam's gut immediately started pulling at him, flashbacks of an alternate future past telling him this was bad news. He tried to ignore it, tried not to be that paranoid ex-army man he'd been for years, but his paranoia was well deserved. One minute they were being left alone, and the next, the crowd was on them.
Melanie's scream ripped through the air and knowing Jimmy could handle himself, Liam went for her, only to get blown backwards by a blast of something more super than natural. These weren't just mundies, there were reincarnates in this crowd too, most likely fueling the fire. Liam fought to get to Melanie, enduring the blows from flying fists and people trying to grab and hold onto him, take him down. He wasn't going to be defeated, not going to lose this battle while family was counting on him. He didn't see the knife coming, he was too focused on saving her.
"We got you now, reincarnate scum-" The man behind Liam hissed in his ear as the knife buried itself in Liam's side, the pain sharp and overwhelming as Liam lost his dominance over gravity. The man twisted the blade painfully and Liam fell to one knee, only seeing Melanie's expression of horror and the distinct symbol of the Resistance patched onto the jacket of the grinning man in front of him who then turned around and put a hand to her chest. Liam watched through a pained daze as the man's hand turned red hot against Melanie and in the next second she had burst into flames, with Liam helpless to stop it.
"NO!" Robb's scream, full of anguish pierced Liam's ears though Liam couldn't find the will to utter a sound. Out of the corners of his eyes he'd already seen his brother Jimmy go down after a large bolt of electricity had hit him square in the chest. He wasn't getting back up again, and then a crowd of mundies blocked Liam's view as they moved in and surrounded the body. Liam shut his eyes, dizzy from pain and losing blood, wishing this was all just a dream. Some alternate universal joke, that even after they'd all been brought back, they were still losing each other. Please let this be a dream. Liam lost consciousness just as a whistle blew, and Camelot operatives poured into the street to take on Resistance and mundies alike to save their soldiers. They were too late, at least for two of them.
