"Your kind of solution won't work on him, Jonathan."
Leave it to Kentworthy to tell him what he couldn't do while giving him all the information he needed in the same breath. Johnathan had all the respect in the world for his comrade-in-arms and for everything they had been through together there was one thing that Sam seemed to forget, they were two very different men.
Sam could have the high ground, could hold fast to his moral compass and remain the unwavering leader he was meant to be. Johnathan was no one's leader. He was a killer, a rather proficient one that had put an end to every living thing that had been unlucky enough to be caught in his crosshairs.
Jonathan had kept a fairly low profile since his defection from SAD. While he was far from inactive his vigilante activity had remained rather tame. His targets had been relatively low on the organized crime totem pole. Soldiers that once removed kept the neighborhood safe but didn't register on the big bosses radar. Frank had remained uncharacteristically quiet during this time. No prompts, no disapproval and that was strange to Jonathan. His reincarnate was in the driver seat more often than not and lately Jonathan found himself being more himself than Frank. It was all very disconcerting and not in a bad way especially since she entered the picture.
He'd only spoken to Samantha Ellis a few times (and never in person) before she asked for his help. She knew of his reputation and after some digging he knew enough about hers. He had agreed to her request because she wasn't a damsel in distress and if she was coming to him...she meant more than business.
They didn't speak much while they were trying to find her partner. Words were an unnecessary burden, they often hindered a mission as much as they helped it and Jonathan was surprised (maybe even happily so) that they had naturally fallen into a silent communication that was easier than breathing. Silence had reigned since the discovery of Stu's body and that...that should have been uncomfortable but it wasn't.
Jonathan had avoided the fairer sex for most of his life. Romantic entanglements (no matter how fleeting) weren't in the cards. And yet he'd told Samantha exactly where he'd be, had no issue with her coming and going from the safe house. Did it mean anything? Why was he questioning it?
No, he would not be distracted.
Killing Logan Fox might be difficult but that didn't translate into impossible. Everything died. Everything could be killed. Sitting at his work bench going through maintain maintenance on his favored sniper helped Jonathan focus. He was going to have to find the right tool first and had a feeling that Samantha would be able to point him in the right direction.
