Where. A bar in Washington D.C.
When. Monday night, November 12th 2012
Warnings. TBD.
Kat wasn't somebody who made a huge deal out of birthdays, but for whatever reason, tonight she was making it count. There was nothing all that special about turning twenty-eight, aside from the fact that it made you two measly years away from the big 3-0 (which Kat more or less had a complete melt down over earlier and Emily had to practically sedate her). Maybe she was just enjoying another year checked off and she could count herself an affirmative in the still alive and kicking column? If fate had decided to intervene another way those few years back, she would most likely be burned to a crisp in a pile of wreckage. Not all that different from the fate that had been Kara Thrace, which wasn't a thought that Kat ever liked to entertain for too long. In fact, Kat didn't like to entertain most of the thoughts that involved Kara Thrace and her life, at least not until he'd walked into theirs again.
Lee fraking Adama. Kat and Joseph had been acquainted on more than one occasion, most of them painfully awkward, but that last one at Camelot's Halloween party hadn't been all that bad. It'd actually even been pretty fun, thanks to the bottle of vodka and the impromptu training room romp the two of them had while dressed in the most ridiculous costumes they could ever wear together not including an actual uniform. If there was one thing Kara and Lee were good at, it was defusing a situation with juvenile antics, and it appeared that Kat and Joseph were no different. She could deal with that. Despite how uptight Joseph had seemed when they first met, the more time she spent with him she realized that was all an act, just like Lee. So when she'd suggested, half-drunk, that they try out some of the blunt weapons on the walls, she hadn't been surprised when he'd consented to the horse play. Joseph was pretty easy to convince when he was half-drunk too.
Tonight was Kat's birthday and she was drunk again, though if you asked her she'd claim she still had her wits about her. And she usually did, like Kara she had quite the talent for drinking most people under the table without even blinking an eye. A point of pride, right up there with her knack for high altitude, but right now she was in a bar instead of a cockpit. Washington D.C. wasn't all that far from where she lived in her shitty little apartment near the Langley Air Force Base, plus she knew Joseph lived around here. That may or may not have been one of the reasons for the choice of location, but you couldn't tell. A whole slew of Kat's Air Force buddies had shown up and after a few rowdy hours most of them had already thrown in the towel by midnight, but her attention had always more secretly been focused on Joseph, the only person she'd made sure to invite. Not so secretly now, now that they were the only two left standing and Kat was currently critiquing his form at the pool table.
"For fraks sake," she piped up loudly, slamming her beer down on a corner of the wood and bracing her hands against the table's edge to fix Joseph with an infuriating grin. "Are you gonna take all night to make this shot? I'm getting sober here."
