Who: Terra Wade and Emily Thorn What: Checking on the Yeerk pool - because sneaking into enemy territory is always a good idea. Where: Yeerk pool in Portland, OR When: Very late Monday night, August 13
Going to the Yeerk pool wasn't Terra's idea. She'd come up with reason after reason not to go - her parents needed her, she was too tired, she needed to get a head start on reading for school. One thing convinced her, in the end; it wouldn't be the first time that Emily went charging off alone. She (and Cassie) had spent too long being the responsible one to let that happen if she could stop it. It meant requiring a nocturnal morph, but that wasn't enough of a hurdle to even cause a moment's delay. The way her wings beat the air in a silent pulse almost made the whole adventure worth it, eyes seeing details in the dark that her human eyes would miss even in full light. There was a joy in morphing, one that made the whole mess it had gotten Terra into completely worth it. She could even forget, as she flew, exactly why she'd acquired a Great Horned Owl, a large owl that could prey on creatures even larger than it, rather than one of its smaller cousins.
She couldn't pretend when they closed in on the Yeerk pool, though. It was hard to ignore the bad parts of being an Animorph when they were right in front of her. Not all Yeerks were bad, she knew that from Cassie, but there was still something so very off-putting about them - and these weren't the nice Yeerks. It was okay to be disgusted, it was okay to dislike them. It was even more okay to be cautious of them, Terra knew that very well.
{Emily, please promise me that you won't do anything reckless.} Terra had already asked once, and she still didn't hold out much hope of her friend not doing something crazy, but the more she reminded the better the chance that she might hound the other girl into listening to her. {We're just here to check things out, not get into trouble.}
