Warnings. Little bit of violence and bloodshed, but not much
Nick had been around for a long time. Spike even longer, but even that particular pissing contest between the two of them was getting old. Not unsurprising, considering how long the two vampires had been forced to live with each other, and would keep living with each other for the rest of eternity or until someone finally managed to drive a stake through their twisted heart. Not a likely outcome, and that wasn't Nick just being full of himself again. Between him and Spike, they were a pretty tough act to cut, and Spike by himself had managed to kill not one, but two slayers in his life time alone. And just as daily life for the undead started to lose its challenge for him, so it had long lost its challenge for Nick.
Enter Buffy Summers.
Or in this lifetime, Juno Winters, a terribly amusing if not a little cliche for a surname. After their little conversation over the boards it hadn't taken much to find out her full name and a few basic facts about her. Just because Nick was a one hundred and eleven year-old vampire didn't mean he was completely hopeless with technology, the internet was an ever increasingly useful tool. His trials and tribulations with this day and age weren't the current source of his frustrations however, as they usually were, but rather the all too inconvenient appearance of the woman - the slayer - who had made Spike something other than a monster.
That didn't sit very well with Nick, since unsurprisingly he preferred to think of himself as that, and only that. It made things much simpler, and less... foggy. Now, he didn't know any more about Juno than he did about Tom Cruise's latest divorce, but Spike knew Buffy. And that? Was apparently, and unfortunately, enough to already curb a few habits of Nick's once she'd rolled into town.
"Help! Somebody help me, please!"
Her screams had attracted Nick to the scene for all the wrong reasons. It used to be a favorite past time of his - kill the attacker, save the girl, bite the girl. It was a fool proof plan, and it never failed. So when Nick strolled into the alley with all the exaggerated swagger of a killer with his prey(s) in sight, he hadn't been expecting to take a different course of action. The mugger tried to fight him of course, they always did.
"What's the matter, can't find a consenting girl your own age?" Nick taunted him as the man made the fatal mistake of taking a swing at him and Nick just dodged and cackled, not so unlike Spike in all his boyish mannerisms as he strode right into his opponent's personal space and took his face in both hands with a powerful grip. "That's just sad, mate."
The vampire tsked appropriately as the man he had in his clutches tried to fight him off, but he didn't have a chance in hell. With a resounding CRACK, Nick snapped his neck and let the now very dead man fall to the ground. For the first time since the encounter had begun, the reincarnate of William the Bloody now turned to fix his eyes on his next would-be victim, only to surprise himself by stopping short. There she was, all blonde haired and wide eyed and petite. There was a little of her own blood on her lip and she looked as scared as a church mouse, but it wasn't her attacker she was afraid of anymore. It was Nick. What had previously been relief had quickly turned to abject horror at what Nick had done to him, but that wasn't what shocked him. What did shock him? Was for the first time in a very long time, he felt some degree of shame.
Nick and the human girl stood opposite each other for several seconds, neither of them making a move to either advance or run, they simply stared each other down. Her with fear, and him with morbid curiosity. He couldn't put his finger on it, but there was something about her... Something in her eyes and the way she looked at him that stopped Nick from going any farther. A first, for him, and while he couldn't say whether or not it'd be the last, just the fact that there even was a first sent him into a downward spiral of violent rage.
"Run." His eyes flashing dangerously and his voice coming out in a low growl, Nick's fists tightened as he strained against his urges. Those urges that any other time would have already had him sinking teeth into all that exposed skin of her neck and drinking every last drop of blood from her. The girl was smart enough to heed his warning without waiting for it to be repeated, taking off at a dead run with a shrill shriek and left Nick in the dust to stand alone in the darkened alleyway with a dead body at his feet. A few seconds later Nick walked away too, not sparing another glance at the man he'd killed while he stalked off in the opposite direction and muttering something about 'insufferable, life-ruining slayers' under his breath.
He needed to find a brunette to kill, and fast.
