Samantha Ellis was still new to this whole reincarnate thing, but she wasn't an idiot or an amateur. After becoming the reincarnate of Natasha Romanova, it hadn't taken long for her to put all the pieces together. Now she had most of them, she knew all about Natalie Rakov and the former Widow's group of friends after some in depth research. She knew all about reincarnates and what happened in Boston from the news, and she knew the previous reincarnate of the Black Widow had been killed by Loki. Just another day in the life of an Avenger? Maybe for Natasha, but Samantha? She wasn't used to her life being this complicated.
She'd kept her distance from everyone. Mostly out of respect to the friends who had lost the girl before her, but even she had to admit to herself that it was partially because she herself wasn't ready. It had barely been a month, and she never liked to surge head on into a case without knowing everything there was to know first. So, she'd waited. She'd watched. It hadn't taken her long to figure out who Clint Barton was, and he was the one they'd watched the most. Natasha wanted to approach him every time, but Samantha had always stopped her. It was too soon. It was all way too soon, and everyone needed time. Her most of all.
Then? Her life long friend and adorably misguided military man Sam Kenworthy appeared on the reincarnate boards that Samantha had been lurking on for weeks now. The minute he claimed himself to be Steve Rogers, Samantha felt the biggest wave of relief wash over her, but also a reasonable amount of dread. She had to tell him, and then it dawned on her that they hadn't even seen each other since he'd gotten back from the Middle East. Well, that settled it. Once the sun had gone down, Samantha set out for his apartment dressed in dark clothes and scaled the fire escape up to Sam's apartment. She was a P.I., she didn't know how to knock?
Sam wasn't home yet, she could tell because his bed hadn't been slept in yet as she peered in through the window of his bedroom. With a considerable amount of effort she managed to push up his window, breaking off the latch on the other side and slipping quietly into the room, her form immediately encased in shadows. Samantha stood looking in the middle of the room for a few seconds, apparently deciding what to do before she huffed impatiently and walked out into his living room where she took a seat on his couch and waited.
Any time now, Captain.
