Nick was a man (or, a vampire) of very few complications. He didn't like them, went out of his way not to have them. Except when he sought them out on purpose, and proceeded to repeatedly torment himself with them until he snapped.
Masochist? Only if you've ever met Spike, he's all the indication you'd ever need.
Still, the fact that Nick was actually doing this just proved something wasn't right in his head. (Like that wasn't already painfully obvious.) He had to be off his own rails even worse then Spike to actively seek this kind of torture. Maybe that was even what ultimately drove him forward, all the way to a charming little two-story on a beach-side street near the ocean.
He was looking for a girl.
And Nick found her, shockingly. After weeks of no sign of her and finally getting curious enough to seek her out, it still wasn't hard to recognize her in the growing darkness, sitting alone on the back porch steps like a lost little lamb. Not a lamb he wanted to eat, though. Nick prided himself on keeping his distance, but there had been something about this electric girl from the Cirque from the beginning. Something that reminded them both of someone they used to know, if that someone had been at all sane.
He didn't try to sneak up on her, she looked jumpy enough already. So Nick merely appeared out of the shadows to her left, sucking on the end of a cigarette and taking a casual lean against the bannister.
"You're a hard one to track down, love." A knowing look in his dead eyes, that interestingly enough still seemed to pierce despite the life he no longer held inside him. "I like the new digs. It's... how should I put this. Charming in a white picket fence, 2.5 kids sort of way?"
