Ever since she had fallen out with her daughter, Lucy had been working over time. It was the only thing she had to distract herself with, the only thing she could do to keep from driving herself crazy. She couldn’t change what had happened. She wasn’t sure she would even if she could, because she didn’t regret it. She knew she’d done the right thing in raising her daughter the way she had, and she’d make no apologies for it, nor for having Acacia with Rob in the first place. Rob wasn't the ideal father, but Acacia had been the best daughter a mother could ever hope for. She just hoped Acacia would eventually forgive her for her faults. After all, what mother was without them?
She’d gotten to the Caretakers office early that day, eager to bury herself in work like she always did and thankfully, Michelle had a new charge for her to go drop in on. A newly reincarnated witch from another source, but a witch all the same, and if there was still one thing Lucy always got right it was magic. She’d immediately departed for the girl’s place of residence without a word, only stopping to get coffee down the street from the MTN. Her new charge lived in Boston, so Lucy would have to wait a few hours before it was a decent time to head over there, but by the time six AM rolled around in the States she couldn’t wait anymore. She was starting to get stares from the other people in the cafe and only then had she realized she’d been ripping out page after page in her notebook and balling them all up into a pile at her feet. She really did need to do something about this situation before she was actually committed.
Lucy stepped inside the MTN and arrived in Boston at exactly 5:55 AM on the dot. It was a short walk to the girl’s apartment, but it was enough time to already start over thinking things again. Would Acacia ever forgive her for not telling her about Rob? Would Rob ever forgive her for not telling him about his daughter? More importantly, did she even want Rob to forgive her? Lucy could hardly bring herself to care about that, the idea of her own daughter never speaking to her warmly again vastly changing the direction of her priorities. The cloud of misery and guilt hanging over her head was so distracting that she barely even noticed when she’d arrived, but ever the professional she was careful to plaster on a friendly smile before pushing the buzzer.
“Hello?” Came the sleepy voice of the newest girl under her charge, and Lucy couldn’t help but think how unlucky she was to get her for a caretaker. Her life was a mess, how was she supposed to care for other’s? Lucy cringed, knowing she’d been too eager and it was seriously too early to be here, but since she was already here she shrugged and spoke directly into the voice box. “Um, hi. My name is Lucy Morgan? I’m with the Agency. Which you... probably don’t know about yet, so that’s not helpful... uh.” Her mind went completely blank for a moment, a clear indication that she was severely off her game but then she just stopped caring and sighed. “I’m here about the voice in your head?”
Silence on the other end, and then a very clear buzzing sound rung out over the intercom and Lucy pushed the door open, making her way up to the third floor. She had barely reached the door when the sirens started, and she knocked with a puzzled expression on her face. Did Boston even get tornadoes? She didn’t have time to question it, because when her new charge opened the door that’s when the hallway started to shake. Lucy Morgan barely had time to push her out of the way and cover the girl’s body with hers before the entire building collapsed on them.
