Adrian/Patrick
Adrian liked Patrick well enough, but he was seriously having second thoughts about coming to this party. Everyone looked pretty damn trendy going in and, while he knew he wouldn't be turned away at the door since he had magically gotten the invite due to being a reincarnate, he felt underdressed in his new jeans and boots and red patterned shirt. Red wasn't his color so much, but Angie thought it looked festive on him. The athletic cut of the shirt certainly hugged his muscular frame in all the right places, without being obscenely tight. As for the reincarnate deal, that was the kind of thing he preferred never to talk about at all. It had been a bit of a shocking surprise to realize that this was the party Patrick was inviting him to. So he was one too? Or he knew someone who was? Hard to say, and Adrian wasn't about to bring it up. He was content enough to be in good company. He was still a little butthurt, to be perfectly honest, that his fiancee had taken off on him for New Year's Eve of all nights. Angie's PR career was beginning to break ground, and her firm had taken all their employees to some huge bash in Hollywood. Adrian had driven her to the airport before swinging by to pick Patrick up at his place. He hadn't come out of spite, because she went out. Adrian was merely relieved not to have to stay home alone with his dog and cat on New Year's Eve.
He snorted and chuckled a little nervously at Patrick when they were given their coins. He asked for the usual. A couple million dollars was one. For all of the diner's debt to disappear so he could start the new year in the black made two. The third, he took more seriously. He and Angie had been having some tension between them, and what was once easy now wasn't so much so. Originally they had wanted the same things, or seemed to. But now that Angie's firm was netting bigger and better clients, the old goals didn't seem to be good enough for her sometimes, even though she hadn't come right out and said it. Something was going on, and naturally Adrian blamed himself, like he always did.
In his usual naive, borderline stupid, selfless fashion, Adrian brought the last coin to his lips and made his last wish. I wish I can make my soulmate happy this year.
"All right, then. Shall we?" he asked Patrick when he had done his bit at the wishing well.
