Thanksgiving weekend. The all-too-brief break between November and finals was over, and Lisette Ross was starting to feel the pressure, in more ways that one. On the one hand, she had two weeks to write about four different papers (all of which she'd left to the last minute, of course), and on the other, Lisbeth. Lisbeth Salander, the girl from the books Lisette had spent her last year of high school reading and loving – the girl who now, apparently, lived in her head. Pretty disconcerting, to say the least. And it was that last part that was making everything else so difficult. A conversation with her "Caretaker" from a place called "the Agency" didn't really help things, even though it should have. Mysterious organizations with mysterious motives that no one in the real world seemed to know about, and if they did, ignored it on purpose? Yeah. Lisbeth had been there before. Nothing about that woman was reassuring, even though she'd tried her best to be friendly and reassuring. Lisbeth didn't buy it. And Lisette? Lisette was scared.
As much as she wanted to believe the woman when she said she wasn't crazy, something about this whole situation kept her from accepting it. Probably the fact that it was happening at all. Lisette had an open mind, but when she heard the word "reincarnation," what was happening to her now definitely wasn't something that would ever occur to her. Did fictional characters get second chances? Were they even supposed to? Even Lisbeth couldn't say, or didn't want to – either way, she was silent. Lisette hated that most of all. Lisbeth Salander never spoke unless she wanted to, and right now she definitely didn't want to. A conversation was all Lisette wanted. A way to figure this out together.
Bleary and frustrated, Lisette closed Lisbeth's computer, rubbing her eyes tiredly. She'd been trawling through Lisbeth's hacking program, Asphyxia, for hours now, trying to learn through osmosis rather than asking her for help, since she clearly wasn't giving it. Lost cause. All she got for her trouble was a headache and a growling stomach. Sighing, she hopped off her bed and headed downstairs to the kitchen. She scratched the back of her head and held back a yawn, calling out loudly, "Hey, Mom! You hungry yet?"
