Well, this was it. They'd finally been caught. Ethan had always had a sinking feeling that they wouldn't get away with this but now that it had finally happened? He was at a loss for what to do. Molly had called all of the shots for their little scheme that they were now about to be fried for, she'd been the one who had insisted there was no way anyone would find out. And Ethan had believed her, because he loved her and because he really wanted to believe that they could get away with murder and ride off into the sunset with her husband's fortune. More importantly that he could ride off into the sunset with her, no longer having to share her with another man because she was his and he was hers.
Ethan had been Heathcliff for so long that everything he thought was completely warped, he had completely forgotten how to be a separate person, and when Molly had finally entered the picture? He had never had a shot in hell at remembering. After awhile, he didn't even want to. He was Heathcliff and she was Cathy, it was as simple as that, and it had crossed his mind more than once that this was the sort of thing reincarnates should be more wary of. Getting so lost in their other halves that there's no coming back, but he was just selfish enough that he didn't care. They had each other, that was all that mattered to him. Not his studio, not his movies, not the goddamn Resistance. None of it mattered. Just Molly.
Then the police had shown up at his studio that morning and arrested him, 'on the grounds of new evidence come to light' as they put it. He was held for questioning all afternoon until his lawyer finally decided to show up and get him out of there, so now he was at home waiting with a huge lump in the pit of his stomach. Waiting for the inevitable, and waiting for Molly to come crashing through his door because he was positive she'd heard by now. This was it. They were really going down now.
