Who. Luke Harrison and Stella Anderson What. In which the Ponds go off to celebrate Stella's birthday Where. A park in Denver When. Thursday evening, September 22nd 2011 Warnings. None?
Things were looking grim for the Doctor's companions, and had been for awhile. Honestly, Luke was still a little behind on the uptake since he was still in the learning stage of all of this, but it didn't take a genius to know that things weren't right. Lin was gone, had been gone for far too long and from what Sterling had said, he hadn't been meant to be gone for as long as he had been. Even Rory was worried, when he wasn't grumbling about how the Doctor was always leaving them waiting. Luke tried not to think about it, and spent most of his time focusing on the only thing that really mattered to them right now: Keeping Stella and Amy happy.
Today was Stella's birthday, so they'd planned a surprise for her. He'd shown up at her house in Colorado earlier that afternoon to pick her up in Rory's full Roman garb, just to make her laugh. Thankfully no one else seemed to have been home at the time so Luke was saved from the utter embarrassment of having to explain why he was dressed as a Roman to anyone else. He didn't have to explain himself to Stella, he never did. He really liked that about her.
He'd taken her to a secluded park in the area that he'd mapped out earlier, where there was tons of scenery but better yet a ton of privacy so they wouldn't have to share their spot with anybody else. They had a full picnic basket that had even come with a store bought cake (Luke didn't tell Stella this but he'd actually tried to make one himself. ... That didn't end so well) and a blanket that the two could stretch out on in the grass.
"This thing is, you know, sorta sweet," Luke commented offhandedly from his position flat on his back, with one arm behind his head and the other stretched out in front of him pointing Rory's sword up at the slowly darkening sky. Most of the rest of the Roman gear had been taken off, namely the armor and the cape, so he was looking almost normal in just pants and a white undershirt except for the sword he was currently brandishing at the clouds. "All very medieval and... pointy. Wonder if we'll ever get to use it."
