Who: Leon Ash and Annie Cash
What: Talking, hanging out, discussing about moving in and joining war factions. Regular relationship stuff.
When: August 3, late evening
Where: Annie's apartment
Warnings: Swearing
Usually, Leon's day went something like this: wake up, go to work, go to class, go back to work, go to a bar, and sleep for the rest of the day. Sprinkled through the day were meals, phone calls, brooding sessions, and guilt trips. But mostly there was just a lot of worrying and a lot of planning. Tad's death was still clinging onto him, and it affected him more then he let show. For Brandon, it was losing a leader and a roommate, and for Jiang just a leader. But for Leon, it was losing his best friend of four years, and one of the only people in the world he trusted with even a little information about himself. And to top all that off, he'd also somehow wound up shouldering the position of leader without even realizing it. Brandon was too quiet to do it, and Jiang... It just wasn't his style to lead something. So Leon had to do it. Suddenly, it was his job to worry about keeping tabs on the Yeerks and what they were doing, trying to convince people to stay away from the Sharing, and making sure that he, Brandon, and Jiang didn't get caught by anyone.
The only truly good part of his day were the times he went over to Annie's apartment. Their relationship was weird and pretty fucked up, but it worked for them. It was essentially friends with benefits, except that Leon wasn't seeing anyone else. All of the good parts, and none of the nauseating romance. At least, nothing that was ever said out loud or later admitted to. When Leon was at Annie's apartment, he could relax, unwind, and be something like the man he'd been before his mother's death. Not completely, but there were more resemblances during those long nights then when Leon was at his own apartment with his friends.
But today wasn't about relaxing, unfortunately. He was finally going to have to drag his reincarnate life into the almost second life he had when he was around Annie. There were only three Animorphs left, and they couldn't take on the whole Yeerk population by themselves - it had been hard enough with five in the first place. It had taken a lot of talking things out but he'd gotten Brandon and Jiang to go along with his plan. He'd join Camelot and Jiang could sneak in as a fly with him. Together they'd investigate the place and make sure it was Yeerk-free. If it was, they'd clue in Camelot to what was going on and enlist their help. If not, then Jiang and Brandon would just need to make sure that Leon got de-Yeerked, and they'd work on a new plan.
First things first - he needed to get into the ever "exclusive" club, which is where Annie came in. She'd invited him, once, and now it was time to say yes. Leon was currently just loafing on her couch, staring at the ceiling with his hands behind his head, just like he had been for the past fifteen minutes after letting himself in. "Hey, Annie? I wanna join Camelot." It was the first thing he'd said since his initial 'Honey, I'm home' when he'd walked in, and definitely one hell of a thing to announce out of the blue. It's just how Leon was.
