Who: Carly Nightingale and Simon Undelman.
When: July 14, 2011. Afternoon.
Where: Penn Museum at UPenn~ because SOMEONE is actually supposed to be looking at schools.
What: Unexpected run-in. Babbling. Geekery.
Rating: Implying that this would have a remotely high rating is just silly.
For Carly, there weren't a lot of things that were more important than her education and for as long as she could remember, she'd worked and studied hard and it had always paid off. She graduated high school with high grades, done well in undergrad work, and now she was looking at furthering her education. Grad school had always been in the cards for her, though it wasn't until recently she had been considering moving so far from home and being away from her father and sisters. As much as she loved her family (and she couldn't possibly love them any more than she did, so the thought of leaving them was heartbreaking for her), she had this urge to do something new and different with her life. Things that had happened over the past few months had only heightened this desire.
Carly was still fairly new to being a reincarnate all things considered, and everything was still a lot to take in and she barely felt like she had enough time to breathe. Would she change any of it? Not at all. It was the sort of thing she'd always wanted growing up - action! adventure! Things being exciting. And they were. The best part of it was being so strongly connected to something she'd enjoyed so much growing up. It was a little strange and took some getting used to, but she was excited to do just that. But, she was also looking forward to more school and focusing on that part of her life. Graduation was closer than she thought and she was woefully unprepared for what would follow, much to her dismay. She'd only been loosely looking at schools lately, a far cry from her previously obsessing over them.
And that was how she'd found herself on the UPenn campus. It was one of the options she'd narrowed herself down to and with access to the MTN, it made going places a lot easier and she liked to use it to her advantage whenever she could (between the TARDIS and MTN, she felt horribly spoiled on that front). She did fully intend on taking an official guided tour of the campus at some point or another, but she'd wanted to explore the (rather massive) campus on her own. After a rather long morning, Carly found herself at the university's museum. Or, one of them, anyway. It was only a matter of time before she was distracted by it. She couldn't help it, really. Carly had always enjoyed those sorts of things and she wasn't about to pass up spending time in a rather famous museum. Of course, there were thousands of things to see and she had every intention of touring every part of the place when she could, but today she found herself wandering through the East Asia section of the museum, though she didn't have any set goals in mind for what she wanted to see. In all honesty, she was just a little overwhelmed and perhaps a bit too excited to do this. What could she say? She had a tendency to get stupidly excited over things like this.
She folded her arms over her chest and pressed the tip of her shoe into the ground as she peered into a display (silk wall paintings), tilting her head to the side to examine it. When she'd approached the display, she was alone, but the presence of another person was enough to make her speak without realizing it. "I always thought Asian culture was so fascinating," she said, tucking her hair behind her ear and pausing before she spoke again. If there was a common misconception that she was shy; instead, she was a bit more reserved. Especially compared to her sisters. Unless, of course, she had something she liked to talk about. "I mean, all of the ancient civilizations were interesting, but I used to read about Asia a lot." Another pause. "But looking at these sorts of things really makes me wish I was better at art. They're gorgeous and I could never live up to them no matter how hard I tried, but I can't help wishing I was a bit more talented on that front." Her nose scrunched before she continued. My brain's.... just not wired for it."
And, yes, she was babbling. She may not have been the Nightingale who socialized the most, but she could blather away, even to a random person who probably couldn't care less.
