Who: Daphne Green
When: Saturday Night, June 19th 2010
Where: Miami, Florida
What: Daphne and Elizabeth have a heart to heart aboard the Pearl
Daphne had been in Miami for almost three months now, and it still felt like it was just yesterday that she'd arrived here with Coral fresh off the boat. She certainly hadn't ever expected her life to go in this direction. If someone had told her six years ago that she was the reincarnate of Elizabeth Swann, that she'd meet the reincarnate of Jack Sparrow and end up shacking up with her on a boat off the coast of Miami, she would have laughed in their face. And yet here she was.
She was happy, that was another shocker. Despite any appearances, Daphne hadn't considered herself to be a very happy person, not in years. She'd loved working on cruise ships and sailing around the world, she had friends, most of the time she'd had a damn good time. But now that Daphne actually thought about it, she'd never really been happy. Funny how things changed. She was living with a woman and an undead monkey and getting ready to sail the Pearl to Tortuga, life could not get any weirder if it tried.
"It's not going to last, you know. He's going to end up disappointing you." Elizabeth Swann, the sometimes pessimist. Daphne sighed in annoyance, batting at her ear like Elizabeth was a bug. "Coral isn't Jack, Elizabeth. And for the record, I am not you." Even as she said the words, Daphne couldn't help feeling how entirely untrue that was. Coral and Daphne were more like their head mates then either of them ever really acknowledged most of the time.
It was another warm night in Miami and Coral had already passed out in a completely rum-induced stupor. The water lapped gentle on the side of the ship and Daphne was half dangling herself over the railing of the Pearl. The moon reflected nicely on the water and she was content to get lost in the ripples if it weren't for Elizabeth's constant and highly unwanted interruptions.
It was hard. Elizabeth had always had feelings for Jack, Daphne knew that without Elizabeth ever having to tell her. But Elizabeth loved Will, and Daphne also knew that, something she never shared with Coral and Jack. Would only stir up trouble. Elizabeth loved Will and Daphne loved Coral, that's the way it was. After all the fighting, slapping and drink throwing, Daphne loved Coral. It had nothing to do with Jack, and Elizabeth's pining for the whelp was only a minor annoyance.
"You know Jack as well as I do. The minute he sees something greener, he's off. I could never trust him enough to chose him over Will" Daphne scoffed, "Yeah? Well that's why we work and you didn't. You two are the same, you know. No matter what you think." There was a moment of silence where Daphne knew Elizabeth was thinking hard about what she'd said. "You're right. We are. Too much alike, it was destructive. We were destructive, that can never last, Daphne."
The Pearl gave a loud creak as it swayed in the water and Daphne tightened her grip on the railing, shutting her eyes for a moment to block out the unwanted thoughts of the cynical pirate king. She didn't necessarily believe them, but they hit too close to home all the same. Daphne had never been very good at trusting people. "Coral and I are not destructive. We're just way better at this than you. Now shove off."
