Who: Rachel and Colin Ford What: Rachel visits Colin in the hospital, there are touching confessions Where: Hospital in London When: Friday, May 20th, 2011. Warnings: None?
"Check."
"Hey, no fair! This isn't even right, I have to move your pieces for you and I'm still losin'. Where's the justice in the world?" Rachel whined over the chess board placed precariously on Colin's lap. He still didn't have too much limb function yet so their enthusiastic game of chess was mostly Colin telling her where he wanted each of his pieces to go next and Rachel moving them for him. Occasionally they made up voices for some of the pieces and got into contests over who could make the silliest. It always ended in laughter. She was just so glad Colin was finally awake.
"You got complaints you can take them to the commish," Colin shot back at her with a knowing grin before lifting his chin to give the board another quick study. "Knight to E5, if you wouldn't mind..." Rachel stuck her tongue out at him but moved his chess piece anyway. "Awe, crap. Cheater"
Rachel had stopped by earlier that day with Gemma and Gemma had left to run errands, leaving the two of them alone to catch up. Colin was grateful for it. Doctors said he was making one of the fastest recoveries from a coma they'd ever seen, so now he and Dick were just biding their time until they could walk out of here. The constant flood of visits from friends and family helped loads, though he silently wondered why he'd seen no sign of Ryan yet.
"Hey, Colin?" Rachel's quiet voice broke him out of his thoughts and he looked up to see his cousin looking at him wide eyed and a little expectantly. "Yeah, Rach? What's up?"
Rachel bit her lip, looking down at the board for longer than necessary before she absentmindedly moved one of her pawns a space. She'd been waiting to say this out loud for months. She'd wanted to tell Colin first because he'd understand, and then they'd almost lost him. During the past four months it didn't matter to her that she hadn't gotten the chance to tell him, but now that they'd gotten him back she was more scared now than ever.
With a deep breath she finally tore her gaze away from the patterns on the chess board and looked up at her cousin. "I'm gay."
As soon as she said it, Rachel felt like a huge weight had finally been lifted off her chest and she blew out a long breath, pursing her lips together and giving Colin a shrug of her shoulders as if to say 'what're ya gonna do?'.
Colin just smiled proudly. "C'mere you." And she went to hug him for the first time in four very, very long months.
