WHO: Miri (Bast) and Eric (Fenrir)
WHAT: Cats and dogs, man.
WHEN: Sunday Night
WHERE: The Subway

Public transportation in NYC was good and Miri had never minded it. Sure, she would rather drive or take a cab, but it just wasn't possible all of the time. Bast was having fun 'people watching' as she tended to do in the back of Miri's head now that she was fully awake, and Miri was enjoying the color commentary. Except for whenever Bast found someone pleasing to the eye. That was a little annoying. Mainly because every cute guy that walked past got a comment.

He's attractive. Right there, the man in the suit jacket with the thick plastic glasses. Miri glanced over and caught the guy's eye before she looked away quickly. She didn't want the guy to react to the sensuality Bast seemed to want to ooze all of the time. She was having a hard time controlling everything the goddess wanted to do and now that she was active, that was quite a bit.

He's looking this way, Miri, I know he is. Just...get off of this contraption with him and enjoy a glass of wine. That's all. You're very lonely, I know you are. Miri pointedly didn't look at the man for the rest of the ride. The subway car hissed to a stop, jerking slightly, and the doors opened. Miri found an empty seat quickly, before the car doors shut and the subway started again.

Bast, however, was no longer looking for the cute man. She seemed on alert. There's another god close by. I can't tell who or where though. I need more practice.

She kept her gaze locked to his, but God, Miri wanted to look away. Bast kept her head locked right where it was, though, and she stared up at him, intimidated. Bast wouldn't let her show it.

"No, I'm not." He sniffed her and her eyes widened. It reminded her of what she'd done to Reed, sniffing at him, but she'd meant that in jest. Something told her he was deadly serious. When he remarked that she smelled like the desert, smelled warm, sweet, she huffed a little under her breath.

It was the amber bleeding into his eyes that made her hiss a little under her breath. He called her out for what she was and Bast came roaring to the surface. Her body language changed. She held herself better, her skin glowed slightly, and her eyes tinged with a hint of green.

"I am Bast. Not just any cat. Who are you?"

It was quickly going to turn more intense if she did not look away. It was very important to establish dominance like this and Fenrir had no desire to be lesser to some slip of a woman without any real power to hurt him. Even with the flare of green, he was not frightened. The great wolf of the North was not to be scared of a cat.

Not just any cat, though.

"What is a Bast?" The question was not an idle one. It became immediately obvious that Fenrir had no knowledge of any other pantheons. He barely knew of his own these days and his vessel had never given much though to mythology or religion outside of what his family had believed. He knew little of the Greeks because of their influence on popular culture but nothing of anything else apart from his own people. Of the life that he had lived. "You smell of cat." His nose wrinkled in distaste with the statement,as though he did not find it pleasing. "I am Fenrir."

Suspicious of her, his eyes never left her face. Still staring her down and waiting for her gaze to slide to either side and leave his.

Her head tilted to the side, her lips twisting in distaste as he asked her what a Bast was. He gave her his name, his distaste showing, and her eyes narrowed, not leaving his. Dogs and cats established dominance in much the same ways and be-damned if she was going to look away first.

"I am Bast, goddess of protection, the fire of the Nile, and mother to all felines." She snapped, pushing herself up to stand, not caring if she crowded or bumped him. "What is a Fenris?"

You are fucking CRAZY. You do not do this in my body. I don't care how important it is to establish dominance or whatever the hell you are doing, but this is fucking ridiculous, Bast. No, no no. Miri was panicking and she wanted to run, fighting to wrestle control back from the cat goddess, who looked supremely annoyed, her eye twitching as she tried to maintain control.

If she didn't look away, he would step a little closer, tilting his head to stare down at her. Topping out at over six feet, Fenrir was not a small man by any means. Nor was he going to back down to a cat, of all things.

"Egypt?" He looked a little surprised but the name still wasn't ringing any bells. Maybe Eric had heard something like that before? Maybe not, Fenrir wasn't sure and Eric was just exercising caution for the two of them. He hadn't lunged for her, yet. But he was not going to back down for the smaller woman, especially when she wasn't reading as a threat for someone like him. But then again, Fenrir didn't see many people as threats unless he was given a very good reason to see them like that. "The wolf."

Which was exactly what he was.

She didn't look away and he stepped in, staring down at her. She wanted to growl. She was only about five foot two on a good day and tiny to boot, but there was no way that Bast was going to back down. Miri, on the other hand, was not having a good time.

"Egypt." She repeated, a hiss coming into her voice. Her eyes far more green and catlike now, the subway car rocked and jostled, but she stood her ground. When he announced what he was, who he was, Miri fought harder to take control. Bast had other feelings on the matter, though. "Do not challenge me, dog."

The subway car rocked to a stop and Miri finally snatched control, overtaking Bast just long enough to break, darting for the door, her face gone from annoyed and regal to plainly terrified. She intended on running for the exit, panting and scared.

What do you think you're doing, Miriam!! Bast was furious, slowing her steps, fighting with her for control. Miri staggered, reaching out to clutch the wall as she made a noise of pain. "You bitch!"

"I am not a dog." That came with a very real growl - enough that the few people still in the subway car had backed away to a sizable distance and were already edging to the car doors so they could leave at the next stop. When she bolted, Fenrir reacted. No, she couldn't leave just yet. She smelled differently from the humans and that was something new for him. He wanted to investigate and wanted the truth of the matter. And at his heart, he was a predator. And his instinct was to chase.

When she hesitated, he caught her - reaching out and snagging hold of her arm. She'd lost the battle of dominance and now the wolf knew that he was higher than her.

"I am not a dog." He repeated the words so she would understand them. And while the cat goddess was cursing, he sniffed at her again - paying little attention to personal spaces. "What are you, Bast?"

The growl strengthened Miri's resolve to bolt. When Bast tripped her up, though, and he grabbed her arm, she protested and slapped at him. The slap was like a tap, really, and she swore out loud. "Let me go, dammit!"

Stupid girl! Let me handle this! Bast took over at the sniff, though, not appreciating it, and she lashed out with Miri's hand, sharp nails flashing out to score his skin as she hissed. "I am a Goddess, you insolent creature!" She all but shouted, angry. "Unhand me!"

Fenrir leaned back with the first smack against him but didn't let her go. "Wait." He wanted to know what she was and why she smelled so different. The part of him that was still Eric wanted to calm her so that she would talk to them and Fenrir part just wanted answers. When she came at him with the nails, Fenrir rolled his shoulder up automatically, jerking his head back to keep them away from his face. They caught his neck though, raking thin red lines down the side of it.

The man let out a hiss that was all human. The canine in him roared to life, a rush of power flooding over him with the new anger that came from the attack. His eyes bled orange for a long moment and the growl that came from his throat was not human at all.

"Creature?" That would have his hackles up just like that. "I am the Great Wolf of the North." But he dropped her arm and snarled when he drew away from her. He had to or else he might try to sink teeth into her throat. And he couldn't afford to shift right there in front of all these mortals. Goddess? Here? She was none that he had heard of. "And I only wanted answers - not bullshit."

Miri was shocked and she looked down at her hand, fear giving her complete control. What have you done, Bast? She pulled back, shrinking into the wall before she peered up at him, cowed.

"I'm so so sorry! I didn't...she gets..." Miri stammered, before she looked down. Miri the human had no problem backing down. Bast scratched and huffed in her head, shouting at her, but Miri wouldn't let her out.

"She's trying to protect me, th-that's all. You're kind of scary, guy. You're not a god-soul, like her. What are you, then? You're a wolf? She's a goddess. The cat goddess of Egypt. What more do you need to know?"

Fenrir's jaw clenched and for a moment, it looked as if he were about to snarl all over again. He was back to looming over here again, as she'd broken the look first and thus had given every indication that she was weaker and would not turn aggressive. Yet she had. He ran his fingers over the edge of his jaw and then further down with the long red furrows that her nails had scored against his skin. "I'm bleeding." It was an idle comment, as if it hadn't hurt. And either Fenrir nor Eric could say that it had been all that painful. And it wasn't bleeding too much, either. It had been surprising though. And he didn't like surprises like this.

"She assaults strangers on the subway?" That came out as more of a growl - and the doors had already opened, making the rest of the passengers bolt for safety and out of sight. "I am Fenrir." He didn't really know how else to explain it. "God-soul?" He had never met anyone like him before so this was an entirely new experience. And she'd just tried to claw his face off. "My father was a god. I can smell that you're different."

Miri was terrified. Bast was pissed. The guy staring down at her was huge. She was tiny. And he had grabbed her first! He pulled his hand down and fresh blood tinted his fingertips. Her eyes widened and she frowned.

"I'm really sorry. You touched me, you grabbed me!" He growled and she shrank back, waving her hands and looking back at the crowd exiting the subway. "Yeah. I'm...human and God. Bast resides in me." She murmured, looking down to her feet. "Who's your father? I don't know who Fenrir is, I'm sorry...."

He'd grabbed her on instinct "You were running away." As of that explained things. "And you were being a bitch. I didn't hurt you." She might have smelled like fear but she didn't look hurt. Or wounded. Or anything other than her fingers bloody from his face.

"What does that mean?" He really didn't understand at all. He sniffed her again, trying to lock the scent of differentness in about her, so he could recognize it later. His olfactory senses were
"Loki was my father. But he's gone. They're all gone but me." Or so he'd always thought. That he was the only one to show up in the new world with a new body. He had escaped the darkness only to find himself stuck here. It had been good and bad, though he wasn't sure how much went in either direction. "And you. Egyptian?"

Puzzled more than angry, now.

She wanted to say that she wasn't being a bitch. That it was Bast, but the goddess grumped at her for even thinking that. "I know. You scared me."

"It means...that I'm not a Goddess, but I have the soul of one. I'm not immortal." she murmured, frowning softly up at him. When he mentioned Loki, that name seemed much more familiar. "You're not alone. There are others. I've talked with them, found them. I was awakened by Neptune." she explained, sighing. "There may be others like you."

Really, he wasn't known for his welcoming personality. But at least he wasn't openly growling at her right now. He'd gotten over that in favor of inspecting her. Sniffing and generally trying to get the handle on what she was and who she was. He didn't quite circle her but he shift a little, inspecting.

"Then what does that make you?" Fenrir didn't see the differentiation between himself and the human. Eric. Fenrir. They were pretty much the same being now. "What does the soul do,Cat?" He'd apparently lost the idea that Bast should have gotten any respect for what she was.

"I hope not." The very thought that more Norse might exist immediately made his mind wander to the Aesir and he stiffened. Did they exist here? No, he really hoped not.

The sniffing was weird. Miri's frown remained on her face, not quite a scowl, but certainly not friendly. She shifted on her feet a little to the side, adjusting when he moved, defensive.

"I'm human." She shrugged and then pursed her lips. "I'm Miriam. She's Bast. We're both in here." she tapped her forehead. "I'm mortal. Nothing fancy." To his question, she shook her head. "Um...she can communicate with cats. She's a goddess, by the way. She was a queen in Egypt, protector of Ra and the Pharoahs. You really should be nicer."
