Who: Theo and open
What: Theo forgets his birthday
Where: Nyx
When: March 18, afternoon [backdated]

Forgetting your own birthday wasn’t the biggest blunder someone could make, especially in a city that was still relatively new to you. Not like Theo could ever think that New York could get old. Every morning of every day, he woke up with this newfound vigor. There were more fractions to be discovered and searched, more people to meet, and if he was so busy doing so much how could he possibly remember the very day that he was born? Point blank, he couldn’t. Especially, especially when it followed the ever-inebriating night of St. Patrick’s. Although he had gotten out at a fairly late hour of the night, he made up by tossing away the sober-spent feeling and guzzling down as much alcohol as his body could handle. Granted he blanked out, but that could only denote what a characteristically crazy time he had.

He also woke up at some random person’s place, in the bathtub, but that was alright too. At least he wasn’t wet. Theo staggered back to his place at around two in the afternoon, barely making it to his door without wanting to collapse. Holding the foam cup of coffee he picked up on the way, he fumbled with his key and walked in. Even with the excruciating headache, he sauntered over to the phone to check his messages, and that was when he figured out just what day it was. It was his mother greeting him a happy birthday and to call him quickly. So, much to his dismay, he did. They exchanged the general pleasantries where she asked what he was doing, who he was doing it with, yadda, yadda. None of those questions were what she truly wanted to say because eventually, she told him that she and his father had purchased him a new place to stay. A penthouse.

It took everything he had not to groan outwardly. The brownstone was more than enough, but now he had to move out a mere few blocks away just so he could waste his time some place bigger. Too big. Accordingly, even though it was early in the afternoon, he went over to Nyx to grab himself a drink. Theo sat down, rolled in the stool, and began to down that beer like there was no tomorrow.

"Alright, Theodore-Theo-Teddy. You might have to wait for a few more drinks for me to get creative." She said lifting her glass again, sort of shaking it slightly, the ice clinking against the side of the glass before going to take another sip, wetting her lips to clear them of the left over liquid before turning her head just slightly to smile at him. "I'm trying to just get out and make friends. Though I suppose, not very well. Going out on a Sunday." She had no problem laughing at herself, usually, and this was one aspect she could admit with ease. She was a home-body and making friends was not easy for her, mostly because she had another personality to contend with that was overly picky.

“I can wait,” he assured her, bouncing his eyebrows in jest. But then his eyes narrowed in skepticism, clearly doubting her claim and even wordlessly accusing her of lying. How could someone with such a pretty face have trouble making friends? Theo found it entirely unfathomable, especially when he, himself, seemed to possess physical attributes that many favored and accordingly, met a good handful of people who were drawn to him. Sometimes, Theo was known to have a very narrow mind and couldn’t seem to understand the quandaries other faced because he never encountered them himself. “You met me,” he pointed out, tapping the counter and not a moment later, another beer was in his hand. “And it’s New York. You meet the strangest people during the strangest times. Guess that’s why I’m so fond of it so far.”

She could not help it, she laughed, both at his words and the way his eyebrows seemed to lift with his words. They were expressive, and just as quickly as she'd seen the jump she noticed the almost leering gaze. Covering her mouth, she shook her head, and smiled at him. "I do! Or at least, I am assuming that look was because you think I'm making something up, unless I've offended you already?" Now her own voice was teasing slightly, "unless I'm at work, I have a terrible time putting my foot in my mouth." Or Hera did, but she wasn't about to tell this stranger she had a goddess living in her head that had opinions on everything.

"I have met you. And hopefully won't scare you away," she gave him a smile and lifted her glass at him before taking a sip, sucking in her lips to clear them of the scotch as he continued on, her eyes widening in question. "Oh? Did you just get here? Are you travelling? I mean- obviously- with the accent-" she paused and put a hand on her chest and shook her head. "I'm sorry, see. There I go again."

“Oh yeah,” he answered solemnly, his lips pulling down and nodding in a very disdain and disapproving manner. Clearly feigned, of course. “You offended me greatly. No really, it’s taking all my strength not to just break down in tears right about now!” Again, something dreadful stirred within his stomach, and perhaps he shouldn’t have purchased another beer. But Theo’s logical (rather poor logic) told him that imbibing more alcohol had to nullify, or at the very least, anesthetize the vile feeling that continued to fester within him. He didn’t know what could have been rattling in his stomach, but he absolutely abhorred it and for a moment, for a very split second, his twisted expression made him look serious about his comment.

Despite all that was going on in his stomach, he managed to laugh. “It takes a lot to scare me away, love,” he promised her, taking a long, therapeutic swig from his beer. Sighing heavily, he shook his head. “Your definition of rambling is very light, m’dear,” he chuckled. “That isn’t rambling. That’s saying enough. Or in this case, too little.” Since she failed to finish her sentence and all. Theo shrugged his shoulders. “Moved here a couple of months ago. I’m quite fond of it, I am. But I still feel a little out of place, y’know? Everyone moves so… quickly.”

For a moment she honestly thought he was serious, looking incredible apologetic and nearly reached out to put a hand on his arm to apologize. Hera was even stirring, particularly as his mouth twisted and it reminded her of something. "Are you alright?" And then he laughed and she relaxed, laughing quietly herself. "You have quite the poker-face Theo. I'm not usually so fooled."

And then she flushed at the words and looked down into her lap, smiling softly. "I could have started to make light of the fact I know absolutely nothing about other cultures--besides France" she paused again, "and Ancient Greece--and make some horrendously faux pas and insult you if I kept rambling!" Her head turned to look at him then, hair slipping over her shoulder in loose strands as she smiled. "Only been here a year myself, still getting use to things. I grew up in a small town where, and I wish I was not using this cliche, I knew everyone on my street and everything moved at a snail's pace. I haven't quite figured out how to keep up with New Yorkers, maybe that's why I don't manage many friends."
