Mel slipped her journal back into the side of Jack's baby bag. Why had she brought it along with her will never be clear, but she was going to take a break from responding to it. For now, she was going to enjoy being at the park. Although it was a little chilly, the sun was still out and to Jack, that was the perfect day. She demanded, by way of silly faces, that her mother take her to the park and that was fine by Mel. While she played in the sandbox carefully, Mel had sat down on a bench and written for a great deal of time.
Now that she was done writing, she walked over to Jack and climbed into the sandbox with her. She looked over curiously at her mother as she scooped up some sand and Mel ruffled her hair as she giggled at her. "We're building a castle, are we?" She knew it was nothing less than a mound of sand, but she had to start somewhere! She knelt down and began to shape it up with her hands. Jack made her way to the other side of the box and filled her bucket full of sand. She then proceeded to dump the sand on her mother's hands and giggle in amusement.
Mel managed to grab Jack upon doing this after wrenching her hands out of the sand. She pulled Jack to her and tickled her stomach gently before smothering her face with kisses. "You think you're clever, don't you?" She said, pressing her nose against Jack's nose and proceeding to tickle her. The little girl laughed and flailed to escape her mother's grip but once she did, she threw her arms around her and squeezed her tight. Mel wanted to cry as she remember that Michael was coming and just the emotional moment she was having with Jacqueline. She pried Jack off of her and brushed her hair out of her face carefully, looking into the blue-green eyes that reminded her fondly, yet painfully, of Michael.
