Who: Lizzicus!
What: New Year's Eve and an announcement!
Where: Their home!
When: December 31, 1965!
At nine years old, wee Jamie wasn't really very wee anymore. Another few years and he'd probably be taller than Lizzie, herself, and he already seemed to be a carbon copy of his da. Not that this bothered her, of course! Still, it was strange to think of her wee boy growing up- for now, however, she was content to spend time with him (he still stayed home with her, of course) and do her best to prepare him for school in two years.
She and Atticus had talked about having more children, once upon a time- Lizzie was sure that Jamie would have made an excellent older brother- but despite their efforts, it had just never happened. Lizzie tried not to let this bother her- she had been an only child, after all, and she'd turned out alright, and there was certainly no indication that Jamie was unhappy in any way for being the only kid around.
Lizzie was as surprised as anyone when she received an owl from St. Mungo's informing her that she was pregnant. She'd been in the week before, just for a yearly exam, but unlike it had been with Jamie, Lizzie hadn't felt sick or overly tired- there had been no signs (to her, at least), that she was pregnant. The possibility was so far gone from her mind that she hadn't even thought to consider it, and she read the letter over several times just to be sure she hadn't imagined it.
Once the news had started to sink in, however, came the wondering of how to tell Atticus. He would be surprised, she knew, but happy- at least, she hoped so! They were still young, after all! It was New Year's Eve, so the house was warm with the smells of the relative feast for that night. Baked goods abounded, and Jamie was napping so (as he said) he'd have energy enough to make it all the way to midnight (he hadn't done that yet, always falling asleep around eleven o'clock). All Lizzie knew was that she didn't want a repeat of her relative freak-out she'd had when she'd found out about being pregnant with Jamie- though, given how happy she already was, without even having told her husband yet, she was sure that wouldn't happen.
