Entry tags:bazzer, jasper, z - 1st tribe - day 34

Who: Jasper and OPEN
Where: Wandering (very slowly) around the beach
When: Morning
Rating: TBD

Jasper, extremely glad that the pink pollen was gone and, in fact, embracing the general wetness of the weather that day, was limping slowly along the beach, trying to get used to the feeling of walking again.  Because with walking came running, and running was, of course, what she loved to do.  Her little tiff with Alex had been embarrassing but fruitful - if it weren't for that, she wouldn't have bothered even trying to walk.  As it was, the angry stomping hurt but it did give her the realization that she could walk... or, rather, limp... around on her own again.

She picked a few blades of grass and tossed them into the water just to see which way they went - though they didn't go in any particular direction, and kind of scattered, like you'd usually see in a lake.  That kind of annoyed her.  And she wanted to see that big eastern river that was on the map.  And she suspected, only a little bit, that one of those indecipherable squiggles on there meant a camp site - maybe even other people!  That would be exciting.  And extremely useful.

Hm.  Maybe she should invest some time in making some rain gear, actually.  Jasper eyed the sky irritably.  If it was fall, there was going to be worse weather to come.

With the weather constantly threatening rain, Bazzer was not getting a whole lot of work done. He was worried about pulling all the skins out of their pile to work on and then the rain coming down and washing away his hard work. Instead, he had merely checked everything and reapplied some of the foul concoctions he had developed to help preserve the skins and had then gone for a walk. He still hadn't found Kenneth, though he knew that he wouldn't unless Kenneth wanted to be found. His conversation with Adnan had helped a little, not enough, but some. It was a start though.

As he walked along the river bed, he spied Jasper up head and was surprised to see her. "Jasper?" he asked, unsure if she should be up yet. She was still healing, he didn't want her to hurt herself more. "You okay to be over here alone?"

"Well." Jasper said, looking all thoughtful. And zen, even though she wasn't zen at all. "I haven't gotten in trouble yet. But I also don't think Thorne's seen me walking around. So I'm not sure if I'm okay to do this or not. But there is only so long I can sit on my ass before being lazy becomes a chore, y'know? What's up, Bazzer? How's the groovy leather pit?"

"Fair enough," so long as he wasn't considered an accomplice, he was okay with her being up. "You better take it easy though. It won't do anyone any good to give Thorne an apoplectic fit," he offered her his hand or arm to hold on to for balance, though she had made it this far. He was worried that she would make it this far and then get too tired to get back, that would be something he would do. "The leather pit is stinky," he replied, wrinkling his nose. He stunk right along with it too. He needed a bath.

"I really can't think of a way to fix that." Jasper frowned, taking his arm without really thinking about it. "I mean, I guess you could find something that smelled really strongly and rub it under your nose. Like that garlic stuff. But if you did that it'd just look like you have a bloody nose and people would be very concerned. I think this is a no-win situation for you, Bazzer, I'm sorry to say. It's too bad you can't find some canvas or waterproof some of those skins and put them over the pit, just to keep the smell in."

"Oh, it's not really a problem," he said lightly, "I don't really smell it anymore. I just worry about others smelling me," because he knew he could get pretty ripe when working, between the things he used and the hot sun. "I think that for right now, we're making good progress. Slow, but steady." he said, walking slowly so that Jasper wouldn't tire. It was like taking an evening constitutional.

"I know there's a way to make skins waterproof - like, water beading up on them and running off waterproof. That would be useful for winter. But I'm not sure what that way happens to be. So if you figure it out, let me know, alright?" She grinned at him lazily. "And you don't smell particularly bad to me, though I could just be used to it. Hey, isn't... I think it's called vellum? made of animal skin?" She looked at him curiously, figuring he'd know since he did the library thing.
