Part of her wondered if she’d completely gone crazy asking Reyna to meet her. But she really wanted to clear the air. Piper knew Octavian often accused her of Charm Speaking Jason into liking her, which after hearing it so many times really started to make her mad. She didn’t think Reyna thought that way, but she did want the other demi-god to know that she had no desire to come between her friendship with Jason. No matter what Jason was posting about on the network. At 1:20pm she left the Youth Center. Staff weren’t required to dress for business, but she did her best to keep her appearance neat. Jeans, a green turtleneck and a pair of black converse was her choice attire, her hair braided to the side. A long feather was noticeably visible in her hair, worked into the braid. She made it down to the lobby at 1:25pm. Lucky for her it was pretty quiet. There didn’t seem to be any tourists waiting to catch a look at any of the arrivals. Though that might not last. Maybe the lobby hadn’t been such a good idea. But she’d try to keep this brief. Piper had no desire to make this any more awkward than it had to be. Keep it brief, and then get out. Reyna had no idea why Piper would want to talk to her. It would have something to do with Jason, of course, but beyond that Reyna didn't know. The two of them had stayed away from each other since arriving. For Reyna's part, it was a conscious decision. It was hard enough knowing that Jason was with someone else; she didn't need to see it as well. But now, with an outright request to meet, Reyna couldn't avoid the other girl any more. Despite her reluctance for this meeting, she also came down early. Upon seeing Piper already in the lobby, she inclined her head in greeting and approached. "Piper." “Hey.” she said casually, still leaning against the wall. “You can probably guess this is about Jason.” she jumped right to the point, there was no point in small talk or anything like that. “A couple of days ago I guess he was posting to the network about how he felt he was torn between his girlfriend and his best friend.” she locked her eyes on Reyna, making sure she understood Jason meant the two of them. Piper had a lot of respect for Reyna, probably from the moment they’d met, and Reyna had backed off Jason when it had been clear they were together. “I don’t know what he’s said to you about me, or what I think of you two being friends. If he’s said anything at all.” Because apparently Jason had ‘tried’ to make it work out between the two girls, but Piper had no knowledge about this. She’d already been extremely angry at him for the public message. “Anyway, I just wanted it to be clear between us, even though we were blocked from that post. I don’t want him thinking he can’t spend time with you because of me. You’re his best friend, I get that. I’ve told him if he wants to spend time with you, that’s his right. I trust the both of you around each other.” Piper shoved her fingers into her pockets, and stood up from her leaning position. “Anyway- I was getting the impression from what I heard from the post, that I was sounding like some crazy control freak. If you want to spend time with him,” she could see where it might hurt to spend a lot of time with him, “I want you guys to. He needs you.” Reyna frowned upon hearing about Jason's post. She hadn't seen it, which made sense if it had been hidden from her. But why would he do that? And in a place where so many people could see? Reyna was a private person by nature, and the thought of other people knowing about the complicated situation made her inwardly blanche. It did put into the context the post she did see, where Jason had been fulsome in his praise for his girlfriend. Reyna had quickly skipped over that. "Thank you for understanding," she said after a moment. There were a lot of things Piper had said that needed addressing, and she didn't want to miss anything. This was a delicate conversation, and Reyna didn't want to make things any more awkward than they already were. "But he has never said anything about you that made you sound like a jealous control freak, at least not to me," she went on. "He has been nothing but complimentary. There was one time when he said he couldn't go on a weekend trip to the mountains, but he didn't say you were preventing him. He only said that he felt it wouldn't be appropriate. I understood. In fact, I have made it clear time and time again that I don't want to be a source of friction between you, and I hope I've conducted myself accordingly. I haven't seen much of him at all since arriving here, but he's recently contacted me about going ice climbing, so I imagine your message about not wanting to keep him from me has been heard and understood." “I didn’t mean with you.” she said with a shake of her head, “I mean with the post, so most other people were probably getting that impression. I guess he blocked it from both of us.” she said with a shrug. “I was mad at him for it- for that post. But I think Annabeth and Percy at least got him to lock it to demigods, so most people couldn’t read about...well...our lives.” Piper was also a private person, which was really hard to do when your dad was famous. But she did whatever she could to avoid the spotlight and attraction attention to herself. Her vision had almost turned red when she found out about the post. “I know you don’t. Honestly, from when we first met at the Roman Camp, I had to respect you. I know Jason means a lot to you, but you backed off. It was impressive. A lot of girls wouldn’t.” Drew, mostly, came to mind. But at least here she was running around with Octavian. As long as that was happening, she didn’t have to worry about Drew making passes at Jason. “Good.” Piper smiled, it was small, but it was genuine. “I hope you both go. Enjoy yourself. Take lots of pictures.” Despite herself, Reyna had to respect Piper as well. She knew numerous children of Venus, and as valuable as some of them were to the Empire, she couldn’t see any of them running off to the Ancient Lands to battle Gaea. Piper not only did it, but she did it with no qualms. Her bravery was something even a Roman could commend. She could see why Jason loved her, as much as it pained her. She inclined her head. “Jason and I will have to discuss his post, but when we are past that -” because they would be; they always got through difficulties and arguments “then I am sure we will.” Piper winced, nodding once. “Yeah. Look, I didn’t tell you because I wanted you two to fight. Annabeth told me, and I’m glad she did. I would have wanted to know. He might get mad at me, but...” she shrugged her shoulders, “It didn’t seem right that I knew and you didn’t.” she hoped there would be no more posts from Jason about her like that. The Potts Tower network did not need to know about her relationship. “But that’s it. All I really wanted to say. The love between friends is important. I have a lot of mine here, and I’m thankful for it. I’m glad you’re here for Jason too.” Mostly glad. She was working on keeping herself from getting too jealous. It was a balance she was going to have to learn to live with over time. Here, and hopefully at home too, at some point. Reyna shook her head. “No, I am glad you told me; thank you for it. And thank you for being understanding. Many wouldn’t. Despite everything, I am glad Jason has you.” It was a painful admission to make, but Piper had been nothing but honest and respectful to her. Reyna felt compelled to return the same. She wished she could just not be understanding, and hog Jason to herself. But she couldn’t do that. Wouldn’t do that, and would not be that girl. She hated girls like that. “Thank you.” Piper smiled, and then looked across the lobby to the main doors. “Well, I should probably go grab lunch while I still have time.” then she needed to get back to work and finish off her day. “Thanks again, for meeting me.” Reyna inclined her head. “I’ll let you go, then. Enjoy the rest of the day.” And with that, she headed back towards the elevators. She had a certain best friend to see about a certain network post. |
