It had been a fairly good day, Steve thought as the elevator doors opened. The morning had been bright and beautiful, and he'd spent it flying kites in the park with some of the children who'd recently lost friends to the Tesseract.

Steve hadn't pried about their friends or their worlds, didn't want to force them to do anything that wasn't right for them; but by the time they'd realized none of them could feel their noses and decided to eat lunch, they all seemed a little bit lighter. And that was enough.

He saw a flash of dark gold hair as he looked around the lobby. Lyra was here.

And she'd mentioned earlier in the day that Hazel had done most of the cooking in their apartment.

"Lyra!" he said -- not shouting, but loud enough to get her attention. "Are you hungry?"
