As much as James dated around—and caught heat from the press about it—he didn't actually do Valentine's Day. Sure, he'd go to a pub and pick up the lonely, attractive women who'd been left out of the holiday but that never lasted more than a night so he didn't really think it counted. Which was fine by him, really. James was awful at the sappy, romantic scene. Once upon a time, he'd been much better at it, back when he'd been in his one and only long-term relationship back in Hogwarts. That had been a colossal disaster, though, so he'd avoided the holiday like the plague ever since. Today, though, he was fortunate. He had other reasons to celebrate that were way better than cupid, flowers and proclamations of love. 1. He was finally replacing his motorbike for the duration of his life spent here. 2. Today was Alicia Spinnet's birthday. Of course, he'd made sure to send off cards and flowers to the women in his life who were family rather than interests, but Alicia was going to get one better because birthdays were easier than holidays laced with unrealistic expectation. While he was supercharged with excitement over his motorbike, he was currently focused on going to meet Alicia and deliver his fantastically awesome birthday present. He arrived at the door of her Potts Tower apartment and lifted a hand to rap loudly on her door. In his other hand, he balanced a cake in the shape of an ass with one carefully lit candle in the middle of it. Grinning broadly, he called out. "It's J, open up." |
