It had been many long years since Glorfindel had held counsel with Turgon, for death and the sea had parted them. Though the time was approaching when Glorfindel would return to the West, he did not take for granted that he would once again see his former lord, kinsman, and friend when he set foot on the shores of Aman. Glorfindel had returned to Middle-Earth in the Second Age to render aid to Elrond, son of Turgon's only grandchild. No news had come to him of Turgon's fate, and what gift of foresight he possessed had not shown him what was to be found in Valinor when his time in Middle-Earth had come to an end. The news that Glorfindel now bore with him weighed heavily on his heart. In rendering aid to Fingon, he had revealed himself as something more than he had been. The tale of his change was the tale of Gondolin's fall. He could not spare Turgon from such dire news, not in this world. He prayed that Eru would grant him strength even as he approached the door of Turgon's quarters. |
