Who: Piotr Rasputin and Kitty Pryde
When: 1/9/10
Where: A hotel in the city
What: They talk about ~the future~
Rating: Low, despite the setting
Piotr packed an overnight bag. He went with Kitty, hand in hand, onto the subway and into Manhattan, where they found a nice hotel with a large bathtub. He wanted to light candles and play classical music and do the whole thing-- but there was just bubbles, hot water, and them. He wasn’t sure what was causing Kitty’s powers to be disruptive, so he tried to give of himself as much as possible. It was all for her, trying to relax her so that she wouldn’t phase through the ground. After the bath, Piotr wore flannel pj pants and a soft grey t-shirt. Cartoon Network was on the television but he wasn’t paying attention to it. He was gazing at Kitty on the bed beside him, wondering if he was of any assistance to her. “Do you feel any better?” Kitty never liked admitting when something was wrong. Being with Piotr, after everything, she just wanted things to work, since she knew he deserved that. She didn’t like feeling as though she was the reason things went south between them-- meaning this time she was being extra careful. She had been putting pressure on herself to be Piotr’s perfect little girlfriend, to give him the relationship she felt he wanted. It was different when the only thing getting in their way was them, or more specifically her. The bath and company had both gone a long way towards putting Kitty into a more relaxed state. Though she might look like she was watching the television, she could feel Piotr looking at her, turning to him with a soft smile. “Yes, a lot better. How could I not, though?” She bit her lower lip, glancing at him as she played with the hem of her t-shirt. “Have you given any thought to our conversation earlier, about living a more ‘normal’ life?” Piotr blinked slowly, smiling sleepily, “Yeah…” Yeah instead of yes, instead of da. Informal and casual, even though the idea scared him a little bit. “Maybe not now, but I could find a better paying job--” he sold a painting now and then, and worked at the Orange Cafe. He still didn’t have a lot of money. It was Kitty who paid for this little hotel trip. “We could…” He reached for her hand, interlocking their fingers. “...maybe get married.” He thought about how long he’d been in love with Kitty-- well, he should just tell her, shouldn’t he? “I’ve wanted to be with you since I was nineteen years old. I died. I came back. You’re still here and I still want to be with you.” Kitty shifted on the bed, turning to face him fully. His words brought a blush to her cheeks, reminding her of how she had pined for him back in their youth. Still, much as the idea of living the kind of life she dreamed about as a child with the man she’s loved for years was enticing, it was also a little frightening. “We could both find steady jobs, maybe something teaching…” Piotr would be good at that, he was always seemed so patient and careful whereas she was more reactive. The comment about marriage was not unexpected, even coming from Piotr like it had. “We’re finally in a place where we could do that-- get married, maybe even have a family-- are you sure that’s something you want?” “I believe Logan is teaching Russian, otherwise I would have jumped on that…” he said with a laugh. The laugh trailed off and he gnawed at his bottom lip. “Have a family? With you?” Piotr stuck his tongue out and pulled a disgusted face. He quickly laughed, “Yes! Yes, I would. It’d be a dream come true.” All those years, underground. He didn’t think he’d come back from it. But she brought him back. She was so very special. “What about art, and art history? You could see if Ororo would let you teach a class on art. Oh, or Russian history?” She liked hearing him laugh, it was a sound she could get used to hearing more often. Kitty couldn’t hide her shock when he made a face and stuck his tongue out at her, picking up a pillow and gently hitting him with it. “I can’t believe you stuck your tongue out at me! That was so rude. What would our future children say if they saw their father being like that?” She was making jokes, but only to hide how nervous she still was. Taking a deep breath, she couldn’t help but stare up at him in awe. “How do you think our friends would react if we told them we were thinking about getting married and starting a family?” Piotr didn’t dodge the pillow and didn’t stop smiling. Father. He could be a father. To Kitty’s children. It made his heart soar. He wished Illyana was here-- not in the room of course, but in this universe. “They’d probably say about time.” Piotr reached out to tuck Kitty’s hair behind her ear. “Kurt will be the most pleased, I’m sure.” Kitty didn’t expect him to let her hit him. He had the kind of smile on his face that indicated Piotr might be distracted though. She didn’t have to wonder what he was thinking-- she had an idea it was similar to her own thoughts. “I’m sure Ororo and Logan would be more skeptical.” Kitty caught Piotr’s hand and kissed his palm. “Kurt might start planning the wedding.” Piotr decided to dodge the statement about Ororo and Logan as well. He laughed again, “He’ll have a dress picked out for you before you know it.” His smiled faded, “Would you still want to live in the X … house?” Mansion didn’t really fit. Because if she didn’t mind it, they wouldn’t need too much money. Hell, they could go down to the courthouse. Other Tesseract refugees were married. It couldn’t be too hard. He was getting ahead of himself-- Back to Logan and Ororo. “Why do you think they’d be skeptical? It isn’t as if we’re kids anymore.” Kitty probably shouldn’t have brought up Logan and Ororo, since now she’d end up having to explain about her earlier conversation with them. “Or he would want to get ordained online so he could officiate it.” Her tone was joking, though that seemed like something Kurt would actually do. “We could do that, though I think we should share a room if we got married. We’d be close to most of our friends, and it could be nice.” Though they’d need more space if they had kids. She ran one hand through her hair, stalling for time. “They might feel we’re moving too quickly, or that we didn’t think it through enough.” “We’ve had plenty of time to think about it…” But then his mind slowed for a moment. He did just come back from the dead. And they were in another dimension. Would it be a bad idea? It wouldn’t be the best idea, but it would make them happy. Maybe they should wait. “No, you’re right, they would.” “I’d like to think if we factored in all of our on-again and off-again relationship experience it’s a natural next step.” She was trying to keep things light despite the expression that settled on his face. The one that had her assuming he was having second thoughts. “You know, we don’t have to get married. We can just do whatever makes us both happy…” “This. This makes me happy. Let’s just do this. If we’re still here … I don’t know, months from now? Then maybe it’ll make sense to go to the next step.” He was afraid-- he didn’t want to disappear. Or worse, Kitty disappear on him. “This makes me happy too, I mean what we have right now works. Maybe all we needed was to be able to put the time into a relationship without outside interference…” She wasn’t going to comment on what she and Piotr might want in a few months. Everything could change anytime. For all they knew, the Tesseract could take them, the Tesseract could send them Apocalypse, the Tesseract could send Trask. The influx of people with powers could cause riots in the streets. What they had right now was perfect, and Piotr wanted to enjoy it. If things got rough, if it looked like they wouldn’t survive, he’d propose. But if it stayed normal, and they stayed here without any toil-- well he might just propose anyway. He didn’t want to miss out on that chance. “I’ll tell Kurt to dial it back…” He then leaned in to kiss her. There was a part of Kitty that felt like they were living on borrowed time, that at any moment the beautiful calm that their lives had become could be shattered. She was thankful to have Piotr by her side, as well as friends like Kurt, Ororo, Logan, Remy, and Rogue around in case things did go all pear-shaped. Although she was hesitant at first, there was a sense of rightness about being with Piotr that she had missed. She didn’t want to give this up unless she was forced to. “No… it’s cute how he’s so invested in us. Just… promise to put me first.” She kissed him back, all the while thinking that if things stayed like this, she might actually be able to relax and just be happy for once. |
