Who: Regina & the Babies
When: The wee hours of the morning, December 30
Where: Leona & Hopes Nursery
What: Regina receives unwanted memories and their accompanying emotions.
Rating: A for a teensy bit of Angst.
It was thanks to their friends, Roland, Robin and their newborn daughters that Regina had made it through her birthday, Thanksgiving and the Christimas holiday’s without shedding a tear. Christmas had been the hardest. Because in the days leading up to the most joyous time of year the advertisements all displayed families coming together, sharing meals and opening gifts. Sure, the advertisements had begun in mid-November but as soon as December hit, they were much more prevalent. Which only served to remind her that she was missing quite a few family members. The most important one being her oldest son. She felt Henry’s absence everyday. He had been the most excited about the twins but unfortunately he had been taken away before they were born. With each passing day her hopes of ever seeing him again diminished more and more. And though you wouldn’t get her to verbally admit that she missed everyone else from Storybrooke, she did. Over the course of the last three years residents of Storybrooke would arrive, leave and arrive again. At one time she would have laughed at how much the Tesseract was a “revolving door” when it came to them. But after three years it had jaded her. To the point that now even if someone from Storybrooke were to arrive she half expected them to be gone a few days later. Because everyone eventually would leave her. Such was the punishment she occassionally still felt she deserved. It was only through a stroke of luck that Robin was still here with her. She’d watched as he chose his “wife” over her on their show and had a child with her sister. And thanks -- in part to the Tesseract -- she was now consumed by the emotions that her new memories stirred inside her. With a soft sigh, Regina, rolled onto her back and officially gave up on falling back asleep. The twins were now sleeping for roughly 2 and a half hours in between feedings. Which was an improvement from last month. This was the ideal time for her to get some much needed sleep. But she had awoken only an hour after the twins had gone down and she and Robin had drifted off to sleep. Though Regina had received memories like this once -- or was it twice now -- before it still woke her with a start. Last time she had gotten over her new memories pretty quickly. This time, however, it wouldn’t be so easy. The memories she had received were memories that she never wanted to experience beyond having watched them on their television. They were painful enough watching but now it felt as if she had lived every last second of them despite never having left. So, while Robin slept peacefully beside her, the quiet and her own doubts, simply ate away at her. And before she knew it she heard movement from the bassinet next to her. Regina didn’t need to take a look at the clock to know what time it was. Her body was well attuned to her daughters’ feeding times. She would often wake moments before one of them stirred. Though when one stirred the other was never far behind. Thankfully she’d thought of placing a silencing spell around Roland’s room to keep the babies from waking him in the middle of the night. Two hungry and cranking newborns was more than enough for both her and Robin. But if Roland was added into the mix they may very well snap. Quietly she slipped out of bed and walked over to the bassinet and in a cloud of purple smoke she along with the bassinet disappeared. A moment later they reappeared in the nursery. Regina could handle this feeding alone and so she had left before her daughters woke their father. One of them needed to be rested and able to function should something come up that they needed to take care of. And since she had all ready been awake that privilege fell upon Robin. She also needed a little distance from her soulmate until she’d worked through the rollercoaster of emotions the memories had stirred. Before the whimpers could grow louder, Regina, quickly scooped up Leona and with a wave of her wrist had her in a clean diaper. Hope hadn’t yet stirred for which she was so greatful for. It allowed her the time needed to feed the one and prepare herself for the other. Settling into the rocking chair, Regina, situated herself and Leona into a comfortable position and followed the motions that she had many times since September. After being fed and burped, Leona, slipped back to sleep due to the rocking motion of the chair and Regina’s continued rubbing of her back. Once she was settled back into the bassinet, Regina, scooped up Hope who had awoken and surprisingly remained silent. Regina followed the same motions that she had with her other daughter and before long, Hope, too had fallen back asleep. Once princess number two was placed back in the bassinet, Regina, quietly left the nursery turning the baby monitor on and headed towards Roland’s room. After seeing that Roland was sound asleep she slipped back out of his room and sat down on the couch and attempted to work through her inner demons. But that was truly hard to do when all she could think about was the pain that her sister had caused her family and how it was her fault. |
