Peeta was in a lot of pain. He thought he was doing a pretty good job of pretending he wasn't. It was pretty impossible to not be in pain after getting stabbed in the shoulder, but after Prim patched him up, he didn't want to go to a hospital until he needed to, and since the wound wasn't infected, he didn't think he needed to. He just let Katniss take care of him. And she was doing that, but she wasn't happy about it, that much was obvious. After their conversation the other day about his injury, he knew she wasn't going to be happy with him. That still only partially prepared him for it. It felt a lot like that time between their first Games and the Victory Tour, when they didn't speak much when the cameras weren't around, and when they did, it was polite and careful, not at all warm and comfortable like they had become here. He'd thought himself prepared for it, but because he didn't know the real reason she was angry with him, he wasn't. After a couple days, he thought she was actually being a little unreasonable. He thought she was mad because he'd gotten himself hurt or something. Wednesday morning, he woke up sore, even more so than he had the day before (if that was possible)...and alone. While not entirely a new thing, it was still uncommon because he liked to get up with Katniss and see her off, even if he didn't have to be awake yet. And since she hadn't waited for him or woken him up yesterday or today, he assumed it was because she was still mad at him. With a sigh, he got up and dressed as best he could with only one working arm, and went to find her. "You're mad at me," he told her when he found her (alone, thankfully). |
