Coffee. It was one of the few mortal creations that Diana was truly enamored with, in particular when the coffee drink was frozen with caramel or chocolate added in. She had found a small spot for such drinks, and found a spot at a small metal table placed on the sidewalk. She’d arrived early that morning after not being able to sleep well the night before. And two hours later she still sat there, unsure of what to do with herself after people watching for so long. The people stared back less now that she’d switched to civilian clothes- a white dress that reminded her of the loose, Greek clothing her mother had always worn.
She looked down into her now empty frap cup, tapping her foot a little. Diana knew she needed to find something to do. Maybe another round at the gym- then at least she could feel successful and not so stagnant.
She’d talked to a man named Captain America (she thought he and Clark would get along rather well) a few days before. But even if she shared the same ability to be a hero with many here, Diana was other. Some people who had arrived to Midgard had entire groups of peers. She had no one, no job, no friends at that moment. Midgard wasn’t even a planet she had back in her home world.
Maybe that was better. It was less painful for her team, for the Justice League. She gripped the side of her table as she thought of Hawkgirl. She’d been betrayed by women before, but never so thoroughly. Hawkgirl was going to cause the destruction of man’s world, and of Themyscira.
Even before, in her world where she’d known where to rest her head and who to ask to coffee, she’d been lonely. Diana had been with mortals, those who did not know what it meant to be godlike. She missed her Amazon sisters. There was a half sister in Midgard, but Diana was fearful of that meeting. Her mother had only one child, which meant that this Wonder Girl could very well be confirmation of Diana’s biggest fears of her paternity. She closed her eyes, trying not to think about Hades and the god’s… implications.
Her hand clenched hard, and bent the metal of the table without Diana meaning to. A deep indent of her palm, half the table warped.
“Hera,” Diana said to herself, feeling red in her face as she looked around, thankful none of the cafe staff were there. She’d have to fix this, or pay for this. She wasn’t even fully sure how money worked in man’s world. That had always been Batman’s job.
