He was impressed with her resourcefulness, and respected her because of her friendship with Snape. It wasn't easy to impress Draco Malfoy. He grew up privileged, spoiled, and acted the part well. At eleven, he'd been annoyed and irritated at the fact that the famous Harry Potter had turned down his friendship to befriend a Weasley and had hated him for it ever since. It didn't help that Harry was the one the world liked, not him. He had been used to attention as a child, and was usurped at every moment by Potter and his gang in school.
It was in his sixth year, though, that Draco had started to grow up a bit. He had been given a task far too dangerous to handle for himself. He couldn't ask for help. He knew what he was doing, or so he thought, until he realized he'd gotten in over his head. That's why when Potter had snuck up on him in the loo, he'd snapped and attacked with the first thing that had popped into his head. He had not been expecting the goodie-two-shoes Gryffindor to toss out a dangerous curse in retaliation, nearly killing Draco himself. That had been an eye-opener, if nothing else, that the world was changing around him, and Draco couldn't do a damn thing about it. He'd been in the hospital wing, then brought here. Lived through one version of Potter, and now this version, this incredibly frustrating, irritating annoying prat version of Potter who seemed to think that nothing Draco did would be right. Well. He could do something right.
From his understanding, Maria Hill was someone who had won Severus' friendship and trust, and that alone was enough for Draco to trust her. She'd only ever been friendly and welcoming to him, polite to a fault as well. When she'd mentioned The Hub as a spot to find good tea, Draco decided to try it, and fell in love with the place. The afternoon found him, dressed in a pair of black slacks and a black dress shirt with a silver tie, sitting casually near the window at the cute tea shop. He'd ordered a few biscuits and scones to try, as well as a pot of Earl Grey tea. He'd offer to pay for anything else that might suit her, as well. Settling back against the booth, Draco waited patiently for Maria to arrive, interested in learning more about this woman.
