Steve Rogers pulled through on his promise to score some Adderall and Red Bull, and Tony had to say that he was actually pretty impressed. He imagined that Cap probably spent some time chatting up some pharmacist somewhere before he was illegally handed the drug, but whatever. Right now he wasn't asking questions, he was just taking the amber coloured bottle from Steve's hand, shaking out a handful of about six pills and chasing it down with the disgusting taste of Red Bull. It wasn't the best solution to the way he was currently feeling, but it would do in a pinch. Even in a counter body, the fact his reactor was gone felt like a punch in the heart. He felt sluggish, and burned out in a way that he hoped had more to do with the fact his mind had adjusted to the constant pulse of energy through his system than the fact that he was suddenly nineteen again. He felt like himself, he had all his memories and besides the fact he was positive he didn't actually feel this exhausted as a teenager, he was otherwise fine. He hadn't managed to get dressed, still in the tank top and sweatpants he'd worn to bed. While he'd waited for Steve to show up, he'd focused on having JARVIS collect data from the network about the last few Tesseract interferences to try and identify patterns or pinpoint potential trends that might predict what was coming next. This was one of those things that he wished that SHIELD - or SWORD, really - would be more transparent about. The Tesseract was fucking with his life, and with the lives of the people he sank nearly half a billion dollars into each year trying to support. He couldn't fathom why those organisations felt like he hadn't earned a bit more trust and reliance than he was being afforded. He wasn't bitter about it anymore, he didn't even let it frustrate him. When he'd talked to Maria Hill about his issues with being shut out by SHIELD, it wasn't from a place of petulance -- to him it just seemed stupid on their part, and even a little bit irresponsible. Especially considering what happened the last time SHIELD didn't have someone else looking over their shoulder and checking that their Ts were crossed and their Is dotted. "Thanks, Steve." He said after finished what was left in the can of Red Bull and tossing it into a blue recycle bin by his desk. "Now many once that kicks in I'll stop feeling like I'm about to fall over." |
