Who: Tony Stark (MCU) & Steve Rogers (616)
When: Friday afternoon
Where: Stark Tower

Rating: PG-13 / COMPLETE
The last time that Steve Rogers was here, Stark hadn't really taken too much time out of his schedule to get to know him. He'd been far too busy setting up the Avengers Mansion, and cleaning up the political mess he'd left in the wake of the Mandarin's attempt to seize up the United States with fear, and his trip overseas to match wits with Evetta Gorani had dragged him away from his commitment to making sure every Steve Rogers was comfortable and provided for. Of course, he also understood later that the other Tony Stark was doing quite a lot to make sure Steve had all his needs met, and that was enough to make him feel less bad about keeping his distance. It had been one sea of awkward that he figured it was better off he didn't take a swim in. The lobby had been filled with booths dedicated to various sections of the company all week. The job fair covering a few extra days to pick up stragglers or people who might be interested in working for SI, but how didn't like crowds or hectic scenes. He knew that engineers, programmers and nerds weren't always the most social of butterflies, and required a bit of a wide net to be cast, but thus far the turnout for new employees had been higher than he'd expected and he was happy to call the job fair a success. One that, at least in part, he credited to Cookie Lyon, a woman he was glad to be able to add to the staff roster. But, with the week winding down, most of the booths had been packed up and the lobby was back to being the sparse shimmering minimalist example of modernity it was meant to be, and Tony strolled from the elevator towards the front doors like a king taking a pleasant walk through his palace gardens. He wanted to greet Steve immediately. He wanted to make that kind of first impression and put forward that Steve's time was valuable enough to him that he didn't mind waiting for him and he didn't giving him full and undivided attention. He hoped that Jasper was getting along all right at the Decathlon without him. Tony knew that neither one of them were really pushing too hard with their creations with the actual goal of winning in mind, it was just meant to be fun and he was happy to have the opportunity to someone he considered a friend, even if he knew Sitwell probably shouldn't be trusted, and even if some of Jasper's suggestions fell pretty heavy into the "Bad Idea" circle of Tony's inner Venn Diagram of morality. After greeting a few of his employees who'd come up to say hello when he'd surfaced to stand in the lobby, Stark wandered off to one side, checking the phone for the time only once as he awaited the Star Spangled Avenger to make his appearance. |
