I do not understand what people are writing about on this...device. How is...what sort of witchery?

I don't think I feel very well at all.

Do you need help?

I do not think so, sir, but I do not understand how all of this is even possible.

It is a bit confusing, even for me. The most likely answer is magic, but I doubt that's of much comfort to you.

I have come to learn that here magic is not always evil, but...that is, I'm afraid, as best I can understand.

And pardon my rudeness. I'm Mary Tudor. I don't think I know who you are yet.

Well that's exactly right. Magic is no more evil than a blade is -- it all comes down to who wields it and for what purposes.

My name is Anders. I'm a healer, and a mage.

I appreciate that, Sir Anders. That comparison makes sense. Evil is also in the eye of the beholder, as the legends go.

Those are interesting qualities, sir Anders. A healer and a mage? May I ask how they work together? I understand healers. Mage is someone who uses magic, is that correct?

I'm nothing much of the sort. I am the Lady Mary as it stands now, but rightfully Princess. My father is King Henry VIII of England, Scotland and Wales.

Just Anders is fine, thank you. And you're very right. If only more people understood it as easily as you do, then perhaps my world wouldn't have been so misguided. Children ripped away from their mothers at the first sign of magic, told they're wrong for merely existing, and then forced into gilded prisons for the rest of their lives. It's as unjust as automatically trying every swordsman as a murdered just for carrying a sword!

I can use magic to heal most wounds and illnesses. Mages are born with the ability to draw power from the Fade -- a realm between worlds, if you will -- and we can use that power in many different ways. I've always been better at healing spells myself, so I'm a healer.

I've...never heard of those places, but I'm pleased to make your acquaintance, my lady. I didn't expect to meet any princesses.

I would not think to compliment me so quickly, Anders. I am in a strange world without anything familiar. Even this device is foreign to me as anything else I've seen here. I am trying to understand where everyone comes from.

Forgive me, Anders, and I do not mean to upset you by stating honestly that my faith says thou shalt not permit a witch to live. It is what I know and what I grew up with. Yet, since coming here, seeing creatures from other worlds (as strange as that concept seems), witches do not seem...to be the most unusual and cruel thing here.

You use your ability for healing, and for that, I would be grateful to know you better. I would like to understand more of your ability. I feel that here I am not of much use at all to anyone. In a world where machinery and equipment can do most things, knowing how to sew a dress or speak languages is not such a necessity these days.

It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Anders. And thank you, though...I am only a Lady now, as history here may tell you, from what others have mentioned.

You're not much different from everyone else. But at least you seem willing to accept that not all mages are evil, my lady.

If you're open to it, I would be glad to show you how magic works for mages where I'm from. And I'm sure you could learn something new while you're here -- I'm in a similar position myself, after all. The world's not so much in need of a magical healer when they've got all kinds of new medicines and surgeons who are as advanced as they are now.

Would you prefer to be called Lady Mary or just Mary, then? I wouldn't want to offend you in the future.

Whichever you prefer is simple. It's strange to think that my...what? Many generations great grandchildren now sit on the throne of England presently. Or, perhaps cousins is a better term for them, somehow.

I would be interested in learning more, Anders, though forgive me in advance if I seem surprised. Magic, in and of itself, is a new concept to me.
