Rose was not thinking about the guy curling. Well, not exactly. It wasn't like she was thinking he was hot or anything (even if he kind of was). His form was okay, but mainly she was remembering all The work Dimitri had made her do with weights at St. Vladimirs back when they had first started training together.
Still smarting over her loss in the fighting contest, Rose had been hitting the gym more than usual lately. Yeah, she'd been fighting a guy with superpowers who she had to admit was kind of a badass even without them, but losing wasn't something she was used to, not for a long time now. She'd been one of the best novices at the academy. It hadn't taken long for her to start winning her fights in group practice again and since graduating - well, she was one of the best guardians in her world with a higher kill count than most, despite only being 18. Okay, so technically she didn't even know if she was a guardian anymore, after being framed for murder and all, but Adrian said that all worked out, so she figured that had to count. The point was, she hadn't actually lost a fight in almost a year and it was a pretty big blow to her ego. Maybe she was getting soft, despite regular patrols for the RSTF. Maybe she just wasn't as good as she thought she was.
She would have asked Dimitri to train with her, but that didn't mesh with the while avoiding him thing she'd gotten so good at. Instead, she was down here by herself and it was during a series of warm up stretches that she found herself looking around. Thanks to her training, it was something she did naturally, even when she wasn't on duty. Her gaze swept the room, constantly alert and aware of any potential threats. Or sparring partners. The more people she fought - especially those with powers - the more ready she would be to kick ass at the next one of those things.
