Bonnie couldn't believe it when she heard the sound of Elena's voice, when she realized that Elena and Damon had found their way back to her and that she was going home. Jumping back in the car she'd hot-wired on the other side of the country, she sped the rest of the way to Mystic Falls as quickly as she could make that car go. Her heart was hammering in her chest as she pulled up in front of the house, as she slipped inside and found the note Damon had left, and then she was racing toward Elena's. Her excitement grew by the moment - to see Elena, even to see Damon and most of all to go home. But when she got to Elena's house, they were gone. There was no one there and she was alone. After a frantic search, she realized something must have happened. That hope she had maintained the whole time she was stuck in this place with Damon crumbled and she found herself collapsing on the porch she'd spent half her childhood around. When Bonnie looked up again, it was because she spotted a strange light above her. The sky seemed to open above her, revealing stars and planets. Entire solar systems. For a moment, all she could do was stare and then something within Bonnie prompted her to stand, to reach out and touch that light. The moment she made contact - with something that should have been impossible to reach - Bonnie was enveloped in pain. She couldn't think past it, couldn't process anything beyond the agony. And then, just as suddenly as it had began, it stopped. She found herself in a room surrounded by strangers. The explanations provided in the next moments passed in a blur. Had she exchanged one prison for another? But this one had people. So many people. She nearly wept with relief, even if it wasn't home. It wasn't Mystic Falls. She would find a way, her hope was renewed. And in the meantime, at least she was no longer alone. Her spirits were lifted as she rode the elevator up to the eighteenth floor, toward the apartment she had been given and when she let herself into apartment 1806, that's when she found the most surprising and not entirely unwelcome sight. “Damon?” |
