It felt like only yesterday she was on the Normandy and bracing herself for what they were going to do. Actually, it was only a couple of days ago. Then that thing that they called the Tesseract brought her here. Away from everything she knew and she thought, at first, everyone she knew, too. But Kaidan was here, and so was Ash. There were a lot of mixed feelings on that. Not that she wasn't happy that they were there, especially Ash, but it brought up a lot of guilt too. They told her about alternate timelines, but she wondered if there was ever one where she could save both of them, and not just save one. Somewhere in her own universe, the Normandy was heading for Earth and would land. Would it get there without her? Was the Illusive Man going to get to the Crucible first? What if the Reapers destroyed the Crucible before they even landed? Too many questions, too much time to think. Shepard needed distraction, and thankfully Kaidan was giving her one. She made her way down to the lobby, feeling naked without her armor and strange wearing street clothing. A plain gray shirt with a pair of jeans and work boots. Her style of clothing was never particularly girlie, and the nicest dress she ever owned was one that Kasumi gave her for when they went to get Keiji's gray box. When she got to the lobby, she glanced around. It felt peaceful, quiet. Foreign. Leave it to Shepard to feel out of place already among civilian life when she'd only been reinstated into the Alliance not all that long ago. God, she was so ready to get back on that ship, though she hated the circumstances that put her there. She didn't see Kaidan just yet, but then when she spotted him, she approached. "Kaidan," she said his name as a greeting. Their last few conversations had been strained and awkward at points, but she was still happy to see him. Kaidan hadn't been there the whole time like Garrus and Tali, but he stuck by her when it counted the most. Especially when Udina betrayed them all. She offered a hand, unsure if they were going to be the hugging sort of friends. Hard to say when you almost had something, but then everything, including the galaxy, got in the way of that. Was it going to feel this strange with Ash? Likely, and even more so, considering she'd seen Kaidan a couple of days ago, but Ash, a few years. |
