Although she'd teased Steve about taking her to war museums, while she'd been in Paris, she had snuck off to pay her respects on the anniversary of the Paris liberation. It was something she'd felt she had to do, and do alone. The story was different here, but back home, her aunt had fought alongside the civilians in Paris; she'd been a part of that resistance and it was an important part of Aunt Peggy's story and an important part of what had ultimately lead Sharon to SHIELD, to Nick Fury, and a life fighting alongside Captain America. But that life was over now. Sure, she was still alive, which was more than she could say for how she ended up in her home dimension. Sure, she was here with Nick Fury (probably. After all, the man had more LMDs than America had Republicans) and sure she was still doing what she'd always done: fight alongside Captain America. But, Sharon was beginning to feel more and more like she had to put the life she had away. Make is something private, something to reflect on, but something that she could no longer look to to govern her decisions moving forward. She could compartmentalize the past if she needed to, and do whatever she wanted to shape her future here however she saw fit. There was no point in holding to old -- to old romances from a world she'd never live to see and a man who would never love her the way that she loved him. On the train from Paris to London, she went over with Steve some of the details she'd been able to pull from the London base when she and Monty had first scoped it out. At the time, the plan had always been to secure the base and then move on to take Paris, but now that SHIELD's position in Europe was at least somewhat secure, she felt like it was a good time to go over the information with a finer comb, perhaps taking a closer look at the politicians and business executives whose names came up in the decrypted SHIELD files and the information that had come from the London base. After all, not all those affiliated with HYDRA crawled around the centre of the ants nest, and if they could do something to help local police locate the members of their organizations and businesses who were actually the secret members of a nazi death cult, it would probably be for the best</i> They lingered in the lobby of the hotel until there was no one at the front desk. She hadn't told Steve what she was planning to do, but she let him follower her to the desk, lugging their suitcases behind him. "Yes, hello." Sharon said, bright and bubbly. The picturesque tourist, thrilled to be arriving in London. "Hi. I have a reservation, It's Mr. and Mrs. Washington -- that's W -A - S -- oh, of course you know how to spell it. It's just we just got married, you know? So I like saying it." Sharon grinned as she opened her pocketbook to pull out a credit card, newly minted under the name Cheryl Ann Washington. She displayed it proudly to the hotel clerk so the number could be matched to the card that placed the reservation, and she completed the check in, got the keys, refused the bellhop's help with the bags, and gestured Steve towards the elevator, waiting for the doors to close before she finally addressed Steve's dumbstruck expression. "I know. 'Washington' was a bit much, wasn't it?" |
