He'd been disorientated when he'd woken up, but then, he'd spend the last few days being disorientated. That wasn't anything new. He'd woken up briefly in the Capitol, and there had been an IV in his arm to combat the dehydration he'd been suffering from despite finding a water supply -- and some doctor had been hovering off him, a distant point that Finnick had barely been able to focus on. The doctor had smiled down at him, and Finnick had smiled back, an impulse that he couldn't tap down despite being only half conscious. The doctor had said something to him, some promise about how he'd be better when he woke up again.
But when he'd woken up again, he hadn't been in the Capitol or in the hospital -- or even in the arena. He'd been on a couch that he swore he knew, but wasn't exactly sure how he knew. But all his cuts and bruises from the Games were gone -- including the quite serious wound he'd taken to his right side, just in between his ribs. He'd been certain he was going to die from that, choking on his own blood. The fatigue from the blood loss had faded too. He kept tracing his fingers over his ribs, where the scar should have been, unable not to.
Nobody had ever said anything about a place like this. But then, he didn't know much about what happened after the Games, he realized. This was strange, new ground -- and he still hadn't let the thought take full shape in his mind: he was alive; he was the victor of his Games.
Instead, he remained where he was. Waited for someone to come find him -- Mags or his escort.
